Topic:Confirmation of Changes to Select Advisory Boards, Committees and Taskforces
Background:At the Friday Board meeting the group discussed the desire to re-think how the work of the organization has traditionally gotten done. With a new and ambitious organizational plan the Board agreed on the need to speed up work processes and to provide alternative ways for members to be involved in the work of the association. The Board had time to review the following member groups, but still needs to formalize their agreement with an official vote. Carrie Kausch kept track of which committees had been discussed, and that information is provided below.

The Board had time to review the following member groups, but still needs to formalize their agreement with an official vote.

The Board agrees that the following committees’ structure and workflow will remain as they currently are.
- Alex Award Committee
- Editorial Advisory Board for YALS/YALSAblog
- Financial Advancement Committee
- Margaret Edwards Award Committee
- Mentoring Task Force
- Michael Printz Award Committee
- Morris Award Committee
- Nonfiction Award Committee
- Odyssey Award Interdivisional Committee
- Organization and Bylaws Committee
- The Hub Advisory Board
- Proposed motion:
The Board agrees to re-envision the work groups listed below and to create a transition plan, timeline and communication plan so that new work processes will be in place beginning July 1, 2017
- ALA Annual Conference Marketing & Local Arrangements – create short term opportunities
- Community Connections Taskforce – create short term opportunities
- JRLYA Advisory Board – evolve to a true editorial board
- Legislation Committee – create short term opportunities
- Midwinter Marketing and Local Arrangements Taskforce – create short term opportunities
- Midwinter Paper Presentation Committee – create short term opportunities
- Popular Paperbacks for YAs Committee – evolve onto the Hub
- Teen Read Week Committee – create short term opportunities
- Teen Tech Week Committee – create short term opportunities
- YA Services Symposium Taskforce – create short term opportunities
- Proposed motion:
The Board agrees to sunset the groups listed below and to create a transition plan, timeline and communication plan so that beginning July 1, 2017 the groups’ work will be fully transitioned to staff.
- Continuing Education Advisory Board
- National Guidelines Committee
- Publications Advisory Board
- Website Advisory Board
Proposed motion:
The Board agrees to end YALSA’s formal participation in the RUSA/YALSA YA Reference Interdivisional Committee and directs the YALSA President to notify the RUSA President by no later than August 1, 2017.
