Psych 30 Grab Bag Assignment – Unit #2
You must choose one of the following four projects:
Item #1: Music
You must record as many of your notes as possible with and without music (and with different kinds of music). Then download them to your music-playing device, and study with them. You will write an “experiment journal” during to record your findings. Did it change your mood? Was it distracting? Do you feel it helped you remember the notes?
** Please note: only 3 students may record at one time, and you will want to use music off your ipod, record in the hallway, and be far enough from one another that you can’t hear the other person’s music.
Item #2: Genetics
You need to fill in the sheet below. If you would like to choose this option, please bring the information you will need from home tomorrow, ready to work.
Item #3: Designer Babies
This option is a straight research project. You will choose one of the following genetic diseases and prepare a report or presentation on it. Make sure to include at least three sources in an APA style bibliography. Make sure your sources are quality sources.

1. Approximately how many families in Canada are affected? Is the disease one in 100? 1 in 1000? 1 in 1,000,000?
2. Summarize how children with this disease develop.
3. Is there a cure? What is the treatment process?
3. Describe a person who has this disease (physical characteristics).
4. How early can you tell if a child has this disease? What is the test for it?
5. Find at least two interesting facts or a story of a child who has it.
Post-partum depression
Imagine that you are running a group to support women in this situation. Please design a program that may help (based on current treatments and help – sources please). Please create a brochure or some type of advertisement for your program. Also, please indicate how you plan to help women admit to this issue and address the shame they feel in admitting they need help.
