Installation Notes
IMPORTANT: Please, remember to uninstall any other Acronis products from the machine before installing Acronis Backup 12 Beta.
IMPORTANT: If you install Acronis Backup 12 onto a VM, make sure that the guest OS time is not updated by 2 or more independent time services.
For example:
  • You have a VM running on VMware ESXi host with Windows guest OS.
  • Thenative Windows Time service is enabled and updates time over Internet
  • VMware Tools time sync is enabled to sync time in guest OS with the ESXi host time
  • The time set on ESXi host does not match real time.
In this setup Acronis Backup 12 may stop working with “The system time has changed. You can no longer use this product. Please upgrade it” message.
Solution: make sure that the time set on the ESXi host is correct
IMPORTANT: Before using the product, remember tofollow the initial setup instructions from Acronis Backup 12 Beta Evaluation Guide.
Known issues
Product capabilities under development
The following product capabilities are still being developed and are not ready for preview in this Beta version. Thesewill become available in GA version:
•Upgrade from previous versions is not supported
–Workaround: Uninstall any other Acronis software previously installed on the target machine
Common:
•[ABR-103196] Granular search in image backups located in Acronis Cloud may be very slow
•[ABR-102770] Remote installation of Acronis Backup Agent for VMware onto machine which has Acronis Backup Agent for Windows already installed may fail with “The required service on the remote machine is not started. Start the service and retry the connection.” Cause: the remote install sequence requests Agent registration on AMS before Acronis services are in proper state, i.e. too early
–Workaround: re-try the remote install
•[ABR-102543] Acronis Backup Monitor does not start automatically after remote installation of Acronis Backup agent
–Workaround: restart the machine after remote installation of Acronis Backup agent onto it
•[ABR-101863] File recovery from image backups of FAT32/FAT16 volumes doesn’t work
•[ABR-101777] Installation of Acronis Backup 12 Beta does not extract components required for remote installation if you run install frominstallation package located on a network share. As the result remote installation of Acronis Backup Agents doesn’t work
–Workaround: copy the installation file to local folder and install it locally
•[ABR-101692] File recovery of a deleted file doesn’t work from non-last recovery point in image archive of a machine
–Workaround: perform recovery from last available recovery point only
•[ABR-101504] Browsing individual files or volumes from a machine when selecting backup source may not work in some cases
–Workaround: refresh the web console via F5
•[ABR-101291] File recovery from image backups of ReFS volumes doesn’t work
•[ABR-101277] Acronis Secure Zone is unavailable as target for backups in some cases
•[ABR-101206] Backing up small files to NFS share fails
–Workaround: back up larger files (1MB+)
•[ABR-96324] Acronis backups without .meta are not shown as available for recovery (for example backups created by Acronis Backup for VMware 9)
•[ABR-88247] Search by resource name in Activities tab is case-sensitive
•[ABR-85622] File “download” option during file recovery works very slow
•[ABR-83155] Incorrect progress when backing up huge amount of files/folders (10000+)
Virtualization:
•[ABR-103017] VM replication fails with “TOL: Process ‘service_process.exe’ has failed.” when it is performed by Acronis Backup Agent for VMware Virtual Appliance and there is another appliance deployed on the target ESXi host.
–Workaround: perform VM replication using Acronis Backup for VMware Windows Agent
•[ABR-103037] File recovery into VM with Windows 10/Windows 8.1/Windows 7 guest OS inside doesn’t work when using not built-in Administrator account for login. Guest OSes from Windows Server family are not affected.
–Workaround: use built-in Administrator when asked for credentials for guest OS of the VM
•[ABR-102994] Backup of ESXi host configuration to Acronis Cloud fails with “Failed to create a backup archive”
–Workaround: backup to any other supported storage, i.e. network share or local folder
•[ABR-102859] Replication task progress may show incorrect % of completion values when WAN optimization is used and incremental replication is performed, i.e. when the task runs for 2nd, 3rd, etc. times
•[ABR-102783] Failback from replica into new VM may fail if the ESXi host where replica resides is not managed by vCenter
•[ABR-102652] File recovery into VM may not restore NTFS permissions properly for restored files
•[ABR-102535] Recovery of backups of ESXi 6.0 configuration via bootable media fails. ESXi 5.5 and lower are not affected
•[ABR-102287] It is possible to specify Hyper-V host as target for failback, while it should not since only ESX(i) hosts are supported. Failback task fails as the result
•[ABR-102449] Acronis Backup Agent for VMware (Virtual Appliance) cannot reconnect to vCenter/ESXi host after Acronis Management Server restart
–Workaround: restart Acronis Backup Agent for VMware (Virtual Appliance)
•[ABR-102140 + ABR-102138] Files/folders exclusions and inclusions are not applied to VM backups for both Hyper-V and VMware
•[ABR-101776] Backup plan is not properly re-applied after VM migration in a Hyper-V cluster
•[ABR-101774] Incorrect “Failback in progress” status is shown on replicated VM after successful completion of failback process
•[ABR-100917] VMs with LDM/LVMs volumes inside are always restored in thick provisioning mode for both Hyper-V and vSphere
•[ABR-100564] Replicated VM has different virtual hardware version than the source one
•[ABR-100497] Backup of every Hyper-V VM completes with “Cannot find boot entry ‘BootCurrent’” warning if the Hyper-V host is installed on an UEFI-based machine
–Workaround: ignore this warning
•[ABR-96496] Acronis Backup Agent for VMware disables Windows NFS server functions when installed on Windows Server 2012 due to ports conflict
•[ABR-90170] Backup activities details are not shown on VMs in Activity tab some times. They can only be checked from main Activities section in web console
•[ABR-89557] Instant recovery (Run VM from backup) doesn’t work with sector-by-sector images
Applications support:
•[ABR-102861] Application-aware backup and application items recovery is not available when Acronis Backup Agent for VMware Virtual Appliance is used to back up VMs
–Workaround: install and use Acronis Backup Agent for VMware Windows Agent
•[ABR-102831] Exchange granular items recovery into different domain is not possible even if it is in the same forest
•[ABR-102775] Some Exchange items may be skipped during recovery into live Exchange server with “The property with tag 32833 is empty or has a value of an invalid type.” Warning
•[ABR-101129] ManagementServer.exe and ams_web_service.exe processes consume all RAM on the machine while browsing large mailboxes from web console
•[ABR-100578] Granular recovery of e-mails into original mailbox doesn’t work on Exchange 2007
