You can use this form to apply for the YCFriendlyTick Award from Norfolk Young Carers Forum.
If you work your way through the form – completing each section as fully as you can, then you will be able to see if your school, college or university is doing everything needed to achieve theYCFriendlystandards.
Once you are successful your Young Carer Friendly status lasts for two years. At that point we will contact you again, asking you to use an update form to let us know if you are still meeting the standards.
We don’t need you to write lots of information – just need you to answer each question. If there is any section where you do have lots to tell us about what you are doing please do – we would love to hear from you.
Where schools/colleges/universities are really going ‘over and above’ we may want to feature your work. There is a section at the end where you can tell us what you would be willing for us to share.
Once you get to the bottom, instructions about what to do next are at the end of the form.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to improve the chances for young carers and young adult carers in education

Standard 1
Have a named member of staff as Champion/Lead for young carers/young adult carers.
Put simply this means there is someone in your school/college/university who has taken this responsibility on. They will be the ‘go to’ person regarding young carer/young adult carer issues and will make sure there is information available.
This could be anyone – the most important thing is that they want to do this! You may also want to think of appointing a student as an additional Champion.
Please tell us the name of your YC Champion(s) and what their role is.
Could you tell us how this person was chosen?
If there is anything else you want to tell us about your YC Champion please do so here.
Standard 2
Have a young carers/young adult carers’ agreement developed in consultation with young carers.
There is no set way this should look or in what it should say. The important thing is that you have developed this with young carers/young adult carers you know of in your establishment.
The agreement should set out what young carers/young adult carers can expect from you as an educational establishment.
Can you tell us what is in your agreement? (if you can attach a copy that is great)
How did you put this together?
How do people know about it?
If there is anything else you want to tell us about your agreement please do so here.
Standard 3
Cover issues relating to young carers/young adult carers in staff training.
You can ask Norfolk Young Carers Forum to come and run a session in your school/college/university. Use the contact details at the end of this form if you want to find out more about this.
Please tell us about the training and information you give staff about young carers/young adult carers (if you want to attach a copy of any training materials that is great).
Please tell us about any external training that staff members have accessed.
If there anything else you want to tell us about staff training please do so here.
Standard 4
Display information in school/college/university about Young Carers, Norfolk Young Carers Forum and projects that support young carers/young adult carers within Norfolk.
This should include information to help students self-identify as Young Carers. Norfolk Young Carers Forum can provide materials and leaflets to help you with this upon request. This includes information about the Forum as well as your local young carers project(s).
Please tell us what information you display and where this is available (if you can include a picture of any display you have this is great).
If there is anything else you want to tell us about displays please do so here.
Standard 5
Cover topics relating to disability/illness/young carers in assemblies and/or PSHE lessons/tutor time. Raise awareness of Young Carers in Carers Week and/or as part of Young Carers Awareness Day.
Norfolk Young Carers Forum can supply materials to help with this and may be able to support planning/delivery of sessions on request.
Please tell us about any sessions or assemblies you have run or have planned (if you can provide any session plans, students’ work or photos that would be great).
If there anything else you want to say about your sessions or assemblies please do so here.
What happens once you have submitted your form?
You need to submit your form to us with any attachments (like photos or session plans). We will look over your evidence at a forum meeting to decide if we think you are doing enough to earn the NYCF YC Friendly status.
If you are successful we will then do the following:
- Issue you with a certificate electronically and in paper form.
- Announce that your school/college/university has achieved the standards on our forum Facebook/Twitter page, the NYCF webpage, and on the forum page on the Norfolk Carers website.
- List you in our ‘roll of honour’ which will highlight schools who have achieved the standards.
- Contact you about any examples of really good practice to see if we can write these up for use in our training sessions. We would check the copy with you and reference your school/college/university.
If we decide that you have not met the standards we will write to you to let you know – giving advice about any steps we think you need to take in order to be successful. You are then welcome to resubmit your evidence form as soon as you want to.
