On Saturday Nov 20 at John Jay College the New York Committee to Free the Cuban Five and the Puerto Rican/Latin American Studies Department at John Jay College along with Cuba solidarity groups will sponsor a teach in on the case of the Cuban Five.

In 1998, five Cubans were arrested in Florida for attempting to stop terrorist attacks on their beloved country, Cuba.

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labaniño, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez are victims of a horrendous injustice that blatantly violates their human and civil rights. The case of the Cuban Five is undeniable proof of the arbitrariness and illegitimacy of legal proceedings to which they were submitted. Despite overwhelming proof of their innocence, today these Cubans languish in five U.S. prisons throughout the country.

The teach in will provide in-depth and current information on the case as well as discussion on how you can get involved in freeing the Cuban Five political prisoners.

Schedule:

10am: Opening Plenary with presentations by Leonard Weinglass and Linda Backiel, long time human rights defenders and activists. The attorneys will give a legal overview of the Case. Mr. Weinglass is Antonio Guerrero’s lawyer and

This year he received a letter from the US Department of Treasury requesting information on his recent trip to Cuba. The Department threatened penalties against him for failure to comply. Satter was a featured artist at the 9th annual Hip Hop Festival in Havana.

Ramsey Clark is a former U.S. Attorney General and a long time supporter of the Cuban Revolution. Rev. Lucius Walker has helped turn the tide for U.S. support of Cuba by carrying out historical challenges of the travel ban on Cuba and sending tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba.
