Composition 2

Gordon College now offers a four-year degree in early childhood education as of fall 2007 and will offer more four-year degrees in the near future. As the college wants to establish itself as four-year college some changes might need to be carried out. Some students at the college have been critical of the college saying the town of Barnesville is rather small and does not offer a great deal of entertainment or extracurricular activities for the students. Other students have even pointed out that they don’t feel they receive the true college experience. Imagine you are writing an editorial in Spanish for the local paper while commenting on improvements, changes, etc. you would like to see at Gordon College. Try to incorporate the subjunctive: Espero que…; es necesario que…; ojalá que….

Refer to the handout with all of the “trigger” verbs. Write at least 15 sentences.

Please do not try to translate the instructions above.

Oral Presentation

You need to select a large magazine photo that would be appropriate for Spanish 1002 level. The key to a good photo would be one that incorporates vocabulary, grammatical structures from the first five chapters. It would be a good idea to find a photo that has people in it. Attention: you will need to decide if you want to narrate in the past or the present. If you narrate in the present, you must use some subjunctive. If you narrate in the past, I don’t expect you to use the subjunctive.

Some structures you might want to consider incorporating:

Gustar and similar verbs

Preterit/imperfect

Indefinite and negative expressions

Ordinal Numbers (very useful to help with transition)

Subjunctive

You must speak for at least three minutes. You can have an index card with notes ONLY in English. If you use an index card I must see it before the presentation.
