Multicultural and postcolonial intersections –course (4-6 ECTS)
The course provides a forum for PhD-students to present ongoing research on topics related to multiculturalism, postcolonialism, migration, whiteness and processes of racialisation. During the course we will discuss how the intersections of 'race', ethnicity, gender, age, generation, class and sexuality shape societal and cultural processes as well as identities – both today and in the past. In addition to student presentations, the course includes discussions based on relevant literature. The course is open for PhD-students from different disciplines.
The seminars are held on 14.9., 19.10., 9.11. and 14.12. at 10-12 a.m. The first meeting is in Uno Harva –seminar room, Sociology, Publicum 4th floor. The following meetings take place in seminar room 471, Publicum. The course continues in the spring term. The dates for the spring term seminars will be announced at the beginning of the term. Life Course Research

This course serves as an introduction to life course research. The course introduces to key concepts and approaches of life course research, building particularly on sociological research, but also drawing from medical and psychological life course (of life cycle) research.
Upon completion of the course, the student is expected to:
- Understand the general framework and key concepts of life course research
- Know some main research findings in the field
- Be able to relate the life course approach to other approaches and debates in the social sciences
- Apply the life course perspective to specific topics and research questions

PhD workshop Approaches to Conflict Resolution, 24.-26.9.2012 in Turku
Public Choice Research Centre (PCRC) and Center of Conflict Resolution (CCR) wishes to welcome PhD students to a workshop held in Turku, Finland. The workshop focuses on those aspects of conflict resolution in which the CCR network has special methodological expertise: game-theoretic modeling, consensus-searching methodology, mechanism design and social choice.
