Kia ora whanau!

Nau mai, haere mai to the 2012 Young Friends' Camp: Friends' House, Waiheke Island 6th-10th of April.

On a hill overlooking Palm Beach, and only minutes walk from the shore, Friends’ House on Waiheke was built by Aotearoa Friends in the 1980s as a meeting house and ‘retreat’ for Quakers. This Easter, YFs take it over with an island-themed camp called "Tasting Peace".

Transport

Access to Waiheke Island is by ferry from Auckland, so please be at Mt Eden Friends' Meeting House by 1pm on Friday 6th April so that we can catch the ferry as a group and begin the camp together (the Meeting House is at 113 Mt Eden Road, Mt Eden, Auckland. See below Internet link for street map).

The ferry ticket is included in the camp fee, but you’ll need to get to Auckland first. Remember, there are funds available to help with transport costs, so book your travel as soon as possible and let the camp organisers know if you want to be reimbursed for travel.

Also, if it is easier to arrive in Auckland on the Thursday before camp (in order to be ready by 1pm Friday) there is free accommodation available with local Quaker families in the Mt Eden area. Please indicate on the enrollment form if you will be needing accommodation Thursday night.

If you cannot be in Auckland in time to catch the ferry with the rest of us on Friday, don't let it stop you from coming! Just let the organisers know. You will need to arrange your own ferry ride to Waiheke, but we will arrange to pick you up and bring you to camp once on the island (see below link for ferry timetable).

Accommodation

Friends' House on Waiheke Island has bunk space for only 10 people, so the rest will be sleeping marae-style on the floor, camping outside (you'll need to bring your own tent), or if necessary, housed at nearby Quaker residences. Please indicate on the enrollment form which option you would prefer.
