March 21, 2012

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to all students who were honored on March 14th at the Trimester2 Honors Assembly! A list of all the honors appears at the end of this letter. We are so proud of our students and all that they accomplish!

Yearbooks are on sale for $25! They are first come first served. We only have 75 left!!! You can buy online at If you have any questions please contact or

I would like to encourage families to attend the parish presentation of Via Crucis on Friday evenings at 7:30PM during Lent. This beautiful passion play is in its 53rd year here at St. Anthony of Padua and many of our students take part in this moving production. Some of the teachers and classes are meeting to attend together on Friday, March 23rd at 7:30PM. We invite you to join us. Please plan to attend and spend An Evening with Jesus.

Stocked gift cards will be sold in the school lobby on Fridays in March (March 16, 23 and 30). There will be one last sale date before the Easter holiday, on Thursday, April 5. A Great Lakes orders will be placed by 6 a.m. on Monday, March 19, and Monday, March 26. There will be one last order placed before the Easter break, on THURSDAY, March 29. The next online order after March 29 will be on Monday, April 16, 2012. If you have a PrestoPay account, Reload and ScripNow purchases will be available between March 30 and April 15. Please call Elaine Serpe (302) 239-6038) with any questions.

St. Anthony of Padua Grade School band, under the direction of Mr. Ray DiVirgilio, will be playing the National Anthem to open the game for the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Monday, April 30th at 6:30PM. Tickets for this game may be purchased for $8. prior to March 30th. Please send in your check made out to Wilmington Blue Rocks.

St. Anthony’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Palm Sunday (4/1) in the Ballad Room/Lower Level of the Grade School following the 11:00 AM Mass. The Parish and Family Life Committee is pleased to once again sponsor this annual parish tradition. The hunt will feature categories for children up to age 2, children ages 3-5, and children ages 6-10. Treats will be available for all participants, and it will be a fun time for all. Please RSVP with number of children, children’s names and ages, and a contact phone/e-mail by 3/29/12 to Anthony Albence via e-mail or via phone to (302) 983-3200.

Just a reminder. March 26th will be a Professional Development day for faculty; no school for students. We have the opportunity to attend the ASCD National Conference in Philadelphia this year. Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development’s conference will allow teachers to hear from internationally known speakers on many relevant topics in education. They will be able to choose from many sessions which meet their personal professional goals such as technology integration, differentiated instruction, the “flipped” classroom, etc. Part of the cost will be paid for by the Title IIA federal grant for professional development.

The children’s donations to the Holy Childhood Association for Lent are due in to their teacher on or before March 30th. Your children were given a folder from the Holy Childhood Association with spaces for coins to donate on Ash Wednesday. It would be wonderful if each student could make a small sacrifice as part of this effort to give to the poor, perhaps do extra chores or give up one extra treat, to earn a coin for their folder. I invite you to visit for more information.

Anthony Albence attended the Home & School meeting on March 14th to explain how families will now sign up online to volunteer for service at the Italian Festival; more information will be coming to help with this process. All St. Anthony of Padua Grade School families are required to volunteer for 20 hours.

I have been leading a Middle States Team in New Jersey since Sunday afternoon. Every time that I visit another school, I miss St. Anthony’s for many reasons. The most important is the children, which is why all of the teachers and staff here dedicate themselves to the mission of St. Anthony of Padua Grade School. We are so very blessed with many amenities here which enable us to make sure that the students grow academically, spiritually, and socially. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Peace,
Mrs. Bahr

Always be generous with your gifts; but God does not want our gifts if they are not accompanied by a generous heart. St. Francis de Sales
