Dear parents/carers,
Welcome back after half term, I hope that you have had an enjoyable break with your children. It has been brilliant working with your children over the last half term. They have worked so hard and had such a fantastic start to Year 1. This half term our topic is ‘Let’s Celebrate’. The children will be looking at different religious and traditional celebrations around the world.
Maths
During this half term, we will continue to look at place value to ensure that the children are confident with numbers. The children will also be learning about fractions, time, capacity and money, all taught through practical and fun activities to support the children’s learning.
English
In English,we will be linking our learning to our ‘Let’s Celebrate’ topic, using books such as ‘The Tiger that came to Tea’ and ‘The Jolly Postman’. The children will continue to focus on applying their phonics when writing as well as using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces when writing sentences. During the first week, the children will be looking at simple poetrybased around the celebration of ‘Bonfire Night’.
Reading
We will endeavour to change the children’s reading books on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please read with your child at least three times a week for five minutes. Please record this in the reading diary as children who read at least 3 times a week will be entered into a class reading raffle. The children will also continue to take part in daily phonics sessions and guided reading to support their reading in school.
Let’s Celebrate!
During the second half term,During the au our topic is ‘Let’s Celebrate’. The children will be learning about different religious and cultural celebrations. It would fantastic if some parents would like to come in to talk to the children about their own celebrations. If you are interested in talking to the children about this please let me know.
Physical Education
This half term, Seacole class have P.E. on Mondays andTuesdays. This half term the children will be taking part in competitive games and dance. Please ensure that the children have their P.E. kit in school on these days. P.E. kits should be kept in a small drawstring bag and can be left at school for the half term.
