General Description (Purpose and Function):
Responsible for transcribing timely and accurate gross dictation daily, accurately filling in the history of the patient and finalizing the disposition of completed surgical pathology diagnoses without data entry errors.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):
· Responsible for transcribing timely and accurate gross dictation daily, accurately filling in the history of the patient and finalizing the disposition of completed surgical pathology diagnoses without clerical/data entry errors, including omissions, giving priority to rush cases.
· Responsible for his/her assigned monthly transcription area rotational duties.
· Marks the requisition form and corresponding working draft with acknowledgement of previous cases if applicable, printing and attaching those reports to the working draft.
· Stamps time and date on working draft before submitting slides and paperwork.
· Responsible for separating nightly reports for distribution to all laboratories.
· Pull the data, print, review, report and maintain all discrepancies of exception reports to make sure that cases are signed out in a timely manner so clinicians can access the diagnoses.
· Comply with all HIPPA regulations in regards to disclosing patient information.
· Responsible for filing back all documents in numerical order.
· Answers all incoming phone lines, including information requests with promptness, courtesy, and respect for confidentiality.
· Provides coverage/back-up for other transcriptionists.
· Assists clinicians, attending, and residents in finding reports, slides and final diagnoses system.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Excellent typing skills.
· Ability to transcribe dictation without data entry errors.
· Knowledge of medical terminology.
· Excellent customer service skills and verbal communication skills.
· Knowledge of word processing software.
Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
· One year experience with word processing preferably in a medical office.
