Student 1: Kimba was Max’s k-dog. She was (.) his best friend. Everyday Max (.) went (.), but, when Max came home from (.) school, Simba would be, would be (.) at the gate. She would, was always there even in the rain. (.) But one day when Max (.) got home, Simba was gone. [Clip is edited] … didn’t come back. (.) And his mum ran out and down the street. They called, ‘Simba, Simba, where are you?’ But they didn’t come. ‘I hope Simba is ok.’

Teacher 1: Who were the characters in the story?

Student 1: Umm, Simba, and the Max, and his mum, and the Police Officer.

Teacher 1: Mmm. Can you tell me about the main characters in the story?

Student 1: Umm, Max, Max was, Max went to school every day like me. And Simba stayed home (.) with Max’s mum (.).

Teacher 1: Can you tell me about where the story took place?

Student 1: Umm, I think it took place at the edge of the city, ‘cause it looks a bit like some country plants.

Teacher 1: Oh OK, m-hm, what was the problem in this story?

Student 1: Umm, Simba went missing.

Teacher 1: Mmm, and how was the problem solved?

Student 1: Umm, the Police Officer found her.

Teacher 1: That was lucky wasn’t it? Do you think Max should have gone to school, even though he was sad about Simba?

Student 1: Umm, he shouldn’t of, because he had to look for Simba.

Teacher 1: M-hm. Do you think your mum would let you stayhome and look for your dog?

Student 1: Ahh, yes, but I don’t, I don’t have one and I’m not getting one.

Teacher 1: No, they’re hard work aren’t they? Max felt really sad when he thought he had lost Simba. Have you ever felt really sad about something?

Student 1: Ahh, yes, I have (.) when, umm, my sister thought she, thought, when my sister found my favourite charm (.) and she, and she wanted to keep it.

Teacher 1: Oh, dear.
