Student Expectations

1.  Students should bring the following to class every day:

3-ring binder of lined paper calculator ¼ inch square graph paper

2 sharpened pencils eraser 2 dry erase markers

1 highlighter agenda 1 sock or dry eraser

1 correcting pen

**STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE PEN!!**

(Except when checking work)

Leave textbook at home, but covered.

2.  In-class assignments should be completed in a timely manner. If assignments are not completed during class, hand completed assignments in to the teacher during the next day’s class.

3.  Homework will be assigned on a daily basis and should be completed by all students regularly, and on time. Homework counts towards your total grade.

4.  Binders must stay organized and up-to-date. Binders will be checked periodically throughout the marking period.

5.  Any missed notes, class work, homework, quizzes, tests, or projects must be completed in accordance with the UMS Student Handbook.

6.  Arrive to class on time, be seated immediately, complete the Do Now assignment and be ready to actively participate.

Grading

1.  Grading will be based upon homework, class work, projects, notebooks, quizzes, tests, and mid-term & final exams.

2.  Final grades for each marking period will be determined as follows:

ASSESSMENTS: Tests, Quizzes, Projects – 90%

Minor tests, quizzes, and major tests will be scored in the following manner:

Ø  Announced quizzes will be given on an as needed basis and will range between 10-50 points.

Ø  Announced tests will be given approximately every 3-4 sections covered and will range between 50 - 100 points.

Ø  Midterm & Final Exams: given at the end of the 2nd and 4th quarter and will count for those marking periods respectively.

GRADED WORK: Homework & Classwork – 10%

Homework - will be assigned and checked on a daily basis. Each assignment is worth 2 points. The assignment will be graded as:

Ø  2 pts. = all work completed

Ø  1 pt. = ½ or more of the work completed

Ø  0 pts. = less than ½ of all work completed

Homework will only be accepted ONE DAY late and will receive half credit the difference in credit.

Classwork - depending on the length and complexity of assignments in this category, point values will range from 5-50 points. Items in the category could include:

Ø  Notebooks Checks

Ø  In-class assignments & Activities

Ø  Portfolio Checks

Ø  Participation & Preparedness

3.  Re-take Policy: Each student will be allowed to take one retest per 50-point(or greater) assessment if their original grade on the test is less than 70%. The retest must be completed on one of the assigned after-school help days, which will be announced in class. If a student scores higher on the retest, they will be given the higher grade but may not exceed 70%. If a student scores lower on the retest, they will receive the average of the two scores. Any student must come for extra help with their original test prior to attempting a retest. Corrections on a test must be turned in prior to re-taking any test.

4.  All work MUST be shown for all tests, quizzes and homework assignments.

NO WORK = NO CREDIT!!!
