XyLoc System Software

Release Notes

Version 7.6.1 JP

Compatibility:

XyLoc has been successfully tested on, and works with all U.S. and International versions of Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and the respective Microsoft and Novell networking clients.

XyLoc USB version – Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000 and XP.

XyLoc Serial version – All 32 bit Windows platforms.

IMPORTANT: XyLoc System Software version 7.5.4 and earlier also supports Windows 95b, however Windows 95 is no longer supported in the later versions of the XyLoc System Software. If Windows 95 support is necessary, please contact Technical Support.

Enhancements:

The following enhancements have been made to the product.

Changes have been made to the Override feature at Login on Windows NT/2000/XP. When the “Override” button is selected, the user must login with a Username and Password combination that is authorized in XyLoc. If a non-XyLoc user needs to login, the user must perform a CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the Microsoft login field.

XyLoc will now perform a group user lookup on the XSS if a user performs an override with their XyLoc Personal Name and PIN.

Added integration with Authentec compatible fingerprint readers. With this integration, the user’s enrolled fingerprint would take the place of the Password in XyLoc for “Must Enter Password” mode. If no fingerprint is enrolled, XyLoc will request the password as normal. Fingerprint integration is not applicable in any authentication method other than “Must Enter Password”.

Enhancements have been made to the XyLoc Application Integration. Application Integration will run the configured logoff script when a forced logoff is performed on a locked workstation.

Added the ability during installation to enable or disable XyCrypt.

Changes made to allow Application Integration to run when performing an override with user’s credentials.

Added the ability for XyLoc to automatically calibrate the signal between the badge and USB lock for optimal performance.

There has been a change in the way XyLoc handles an override to unlock in a KIOSK account. Once an override has been performed to unlock in a KIOSK account, only that user’s key will be tracked. No other XyLoc KIOSK user’s key will be tracked until the PC is locked.

Note: NO key will be tracked if the credentials for the KIOSK are used instead of the individual users XyLoc Personal name and PIN.

This version automatically supports version 2 of IBM’s UVM. If XyLoc is installed without the UVM feature, XyLoc will operate in a standard fashion. With the IBM UVM feature enabled XyLoc will take advantage of IBM’s security chip built into the computer. The support for UVM also includes the IBM RRPC product.

Installation Notes:

The following installation notes are for all operating systems unless otherwise specified.

Use the default settings until you become familiar with the XyLoc’s operation.

The XyLoc application requires that at least one network protocol be loaded on the PC to properly load and operate. For example, most PCs commonly have protocols such as TCP/IP or NetBEUI loaded by default. Either or both of these meet the requirement.

Windows NT4/2000/XP

An administrator or a user with FULL administrator privileges is required to install the XyLoc system.

Windows 9x/ME

A Windows or Novell user MUST be configured on your PC to install the XyLoc system.

Windows XP Fast-User Switching

Microsoft’s Fast-User Switching feature does not operate in a network environment (reference Microsoft TechNet article Q294739). Ensure Technologies supports Windows XP in a network environment. As a result Microsoft will automatically disable fast user switching. The XyLoc Kiosk account provides this type of functionality. Please contact Ensure Technologies for further information.

The use of a screen saver may no longer be necessary or desired.Ensure Technologies recommends disabling the “Password Protect” check box in the Screen Saver tab of the Display Control Panel. Please consult with your XyLoc System Administrator for further information.

When using XyLoc with Windows NT4, SP4 or newer is required.
