Research on Improving Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Health Outcomes: Integrative Family and Systems Treatment (I-Fast) Integrated Episode of Care Model. 2014-present

PI: Mo Yee Lee (July 2014 – June 2017). Strong Families and Safe Community Grant, funded by Ohio

Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) and Department of Developmental

Disability (DODD), $865,095, with $130,732 for the evaluation.

 Prepared study material for data collection; coordinated with the agency professionals regularly to monitor

the study progress; managed the collected data; mentored other assistants to help with the data entry;

conducted data analysis and program evaluation;

Research on the empirical evidence for the range of integrative mind-body-spirit approaches adopted in social work and healthcare practices 2014-present

PI: Mo Yee Lee (Sep. 2014-present). Funded by National Associations of Deans and Directors of School of Social Work, Development Fund in Graduate Social Work Education.

Conducting systematic review and meta-analysis for recent integrative body-mind-spirit research articles in

Literature review on the predictors for behavioral/mental health needs and behavioral/mental health service

access among children/youth in child welfare system;

 Compared the findings from national datasets (National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-being) with

the state administrative data (State Automated Child Welfare Information System) to inform the child

welfare-behavioral/mental health service provisions in the state of Ohio; prepared report: Behavioral

Health Service Need and Receipt among Child Welfare-Involved Youth in Franklin County: A Local

Assessment Using Case Records.

Research on patterns of parental discipline and machismo among university students 2013-2014

PI: Rene Olate (2013-2015).

 Data analysis for the research projects on university students across Nicaragua, Mexico, and San Salvador,

exploring the associations of spirituality, parental discipline, and self-efficacy among university students in

Latin America.

Research on Latino youth gang 2012-2013

PI: Rene Olate (2012-2013).

 Data analysis for the exploration of risk and protective factors for violence among Salvadoran youth in San

Salvador: the role of immigration, acculturation and personal Efficacy.

Research on Long-Term Care for Adults with Intellectual and Psychiatric Disability 2011- 2012

Funded by China Disabled Persons’ Federation.

 Assessed the needs of adults with intellectual and psychiatric disability and their families; identified gaps

of current welfare provisions in China; suggested an appropriate model of long-term care for adults

with intellectual and psychiatric disability.

Research on the Institution of Basic Life Support for De Facto Orphan 2011- 2012

Funded by Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

 Contacted with central, provincial and municipal governments to collect the data of numbers and

distribution of de facto orphans from 31 provinces in China; calculated the fiscal expenditure of subsidy

for de factor orphans in China to provide a solid foundation for institutional arrangement of basic life

support.

Research on client satisfaction of service organizations for people with disability

Funded by China Disabled Persons’ Federation 2010- 2011

 Designed the questionnaire of client satisfaction of service organizations in terms of organizational

environment, service diversity, staff professionalism, as well as the rehabilitation effects; coordinated a

research team to complete the sampling, phone investigation, and data collection from 431 households in

Beijing, China; analyzed the data and finished a report revealing the existing problems of service

organizations for Chinese people with disability.

Research on child welfare institution’s accountability Jul. 2010-Oct. 2010

Funded by Social Policy Research Centre, the University of New South Wales

 Conducted three case studies on child welfare institutions by reviewing historical documents and in-depth

interviewing directors and staff of the institutions.

Research on social policy and service for people with autism and their families 2009-2011

Funded by French Embassy.

Obtained the professional training on autism and in-depth interviewed 33 families in terms of individual

andfamily needs; organized and coordinatedan international conference on social service and policy in

Peking University.

Interdisciplinary Research 2007-2009

Sponsored by Presidential Undergraduate Research Fellowship (PURF), Peking University.

 Collaborated with two law school students to conduct the survey on the political senses of university

students; Outstanding Award in 17th the highest Youth Academic Competition of Peking University for

Assisted the central office to design youth survey, analyze youth outcome data, manage database, and write policy reports; presented the needs assessment report of prison gangs in the Regional Superintendents Meeting in December, 2014.

 Conducted the evidence-based research to help the agency to develop best practices of juvenile delinquency intervention, particularly the treatment curriculum for substance abuse, sexual offending and youth psychopathic personality.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee Intern Mar. 2010-Oct 2010

 Obtained human rights law training on refugee protection and participated in the process of refugee/asylum seeker status decision.

Translated important documents and international law of refugee protection into Chinese, helping United Nations to advocate the awareness raising movement. One of the translations “UNHCR Action to Address Statelessness-A Strategy Note” has been published in UNHCR Chinese Office.
