WTCI Nominated For Two MidSouth Regional Emmy Awards

Chattanooga’s PBS station, WTCI, has been nominated for two Emmy Awards by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, MidSouth Division. This year WTCI was nominated for awards in the Community/Public Service Spot and the Community/Public Service Campaign categories.

As a community PBS station WTCI supports Chattanooga families, schools and organizations through quality, trusted programming, events, camps, educator workshops and the work of an award-winning production team, officials said. WTCI has created documentaries, on-air spots and short-form production pieces for local organizations like Ballet Tennessee, the Chattanooga History Center, the Chattanooga Medical Foundation, the Children’s Advocacy Center, the Tennessee Aquarium and the Women’s Fund of Greater Chattanooga.

The late Peter DeLynn, executive producer, and Emily Compton were both nominated for their work on the public service spot, One with Courage, produced for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hamilton County. In 2007 Mr. DeLynn won the Pinnacle Award and a Telly for best local production for The Road to Riverbend, was nominated for multiple Emmy awards and won in the Documentary/Topical category for Untamed Legacy: America’s Wild Mustang, now available to all PBS stations.

Ms. Compton is the Emmy-nominated producer of The A List with Alison Lebovitz. From politics and pop culture to authors and astronauts, The A List has showcased some of America’s most fascinating people. Now entering its sixth season, the show has included one-on-one interviews with people such as Jon Meacham, Ken Burns, Judy Woodruff, Pat Summitt, Soledad O’Brien, Alton Brown, Gwen Ifill and a host of other well-known leaders and legends in their fields. In addition to work for the Women’s Fund of Greater Chattanooga, Chattanooga Girls’ Leadership Academy and Live Green Tennessee, Ms. Compton has produced several documentaries, including the Chattanooga History Center’s History Makers program honoring the contributions of the McCallie family to the growth of the Tennessee Valley and From the Ground Up: The Impact of Community, a program chronicling Chattanooga’s efforts to revitalize its inner city.

Mr. DeLynn and Creative Director Sergio Plecas were nominated in the Community/Public Service Campaign category for the STEM campaign produced for the PEF/STEM Innovation Hub that airs regionally. Sergio Plecas has been nominated for Emmy awards for Road to Riverbend, Chattanooga History Makers 2008: The Howard Class of 1960, and for Chattanooga ChooChoo: Tracing the Tracks and won an Emmy for best documentary for Untamed Legacy: America’s Wild Mustang.

Winners will be announced on Jan. 25 at the 28th Annual MidSouth Regional Emmy Awards at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville. These productions can be viewed on-air on WTCI and online at wtciTV.org.
