Skill: Finding differences

Before Reading:

Build Background:

1. Do this activity before the students see the e-book or hear the title of the book.

2. Draw the picture of the duck/rabbit on chart paper or the whiteboard.

3. Ask the students to share what they see in this drawing.

4. Tell them that this is one of the drawings in the e-book that they will read.

During Reading:

1. First, look at the e-book using the manual mode with the sound off. Stop after each page and predict.

2. Now listen to the e-book for enjoyment using the automatic mode with the sound on.

3. Chorally read the e-book using the automatic mode with the sound on.

4. Then assign partners. The words on the pages of the e-book are divided. (the left side of the page and the right side of the page)

5. Assign one partner to read the left side of the page, and the other partner to read the right side of the page.

6. If they need more practice, have them read the opposite side of the page.

After Reading: Finding differences

1. Have the students find the differences in the picture from reading the text.

2. Use chart paper or the whiteboard for this activity.

3. The teacher will write “Duck” on one side and “Rabbit” on the other side. Then draw a line between them.

4. Students will share the differences. They may need to use the e-book for assistance by using the manual mode with the sound off.

Example:

Duck Rabbit

1. has a bill has ears

2. eats bread eats a carrot

3. makes duck sounds-- makes rabbit sounds--

quack, quack sniff, sniff
