Job description / Are you looking for a unique internship that will develop your capabilities and prepare you for a career in the communications profession?
The Government Communications Service Diversity Internship Programme gives you an indication of what the Government Communications Service (GCS) is really like. You will have the opportunity to work in a wide range of communications disciplines. You could find yourself developing and delivering national media campaigns, working on awareness and engagement with some of the most important issues and policies in our society or gathering audience insight for Ministerial offices.
What to expect
We will offer you a 6 - 12 week paid (£350/per week - London based) internship within either a government department or public body. There are limited opportunities for regional internship postings. You will undergo an intensive programme of communications profession activities, including an induction into the GCS, communications training sessions a careers fair and a closing ceremony.
Key Responsibilities / On the internship you will be doing challenging work. You could be:
  • organising events
  • conducting research
  • providing project support
  • writing content for websites and social media
  • assisting with the creation of campaigns and media materials

Eligibility / You will need to:
  • Be in your final two years at university - in a communications related subject (awarded or expected)
  • Be eligible to work in the UK
AND Candidates must also be from one or more of the following backgrounds:
  • Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME)
  • Socially or economically disadvantaged*
  • Care leaver

  • The ability to work effectively both independently and also as part of a team
