Write Source Teacher’s Guide Section Directory

Please note that the EXPOSITORY WRITING SECTION is color-coded Hot Pink. All grade levels include a section for expository writing. Each genre is color-coded. Page numbers will vary by grade level.

Your Teacher’s Guide is a “Wraparound Edition” meaning that all your information wraps around the pictures of the actual students book pages. Materials and teaching suggestions are in boxes of consistent colors throughout the grades.

The Quick Guide on the inside cover of each Teacher’s Guide allows for fast referencing of topics covered with specific page numbers to quickly locate the sections.

Gold-Pgs. 1-49

Your ‘Getting Started’ guide, includes information about the components that are within the program. Timeframes for using the program and a whole introductory section on the traits are here. You’ll find out how to grade for the 6 traits, the rubrics and what is the writing process.

Pg. 2A-The CA. Standards

Pg. 3-39-Delve into the steps of the writing process and students can start the journey of the process in action from Prewriting through Publishing.

*Colored boxes at the bottom address Struggling, EL’s and Advanced Learners with helpful, appropriate lesson suggestions. Green Teaching Tip boxes have suggestions on a variety of topics related to your instruction.

Student writing samples are always provided to reinforce students throughout the writing process and includes trait instruction. A lower and higher example are included in the back of the Teachers Guide.

Purple Through Dark Blue, Pgs 50a-367a

Starting on P. 50A-367A- Purple through the Dark Blue Sections are the units of study-Descriptive, Narrative, Expository etc. Each section has a consistent format from section to section which includes “Writing Across the Curriculum.” Practical suggestions and activities help students apply what they have learned and apply it to other curriculum areas.

Lime Green, Pgs. 368-405

Speaking and Writing to Learn is Listening and Speaking, and includes notetaking, how to write a speech, writing in journals and taking classroom tests.

It’s a great handbook and source of useful information for students.

Dark Purple, Pg. 406-451

The Basic Elements of Writing Handbook includes:

Working with Words and Building Effective Sentences. Answers are posted in TG at the bottom of the page. Practice suggestions are included for each page.

Red, Pgs. 452-477

A Writer’s Resource—these are your teacher pages which explain the traits, how to use them to write across the curriculum, editing and proofreading strategies, and assessment/instruction. Another mini-handbook for the students to reference at any time when needed - laden with helpful information and reminders of what they are learning.

White, Pgs. 623-698

Contains all the Blackline Masters you may need for additional copies of : Benchmark Papers
