COVER SUPERVISOR

Salary: Grade 5

35 Hours per week, Full time, Term Time Only

Responsible to: Headteacher, Deputy Head Standards and Effectiveness, Head of Faculty, Cover Manager

Main Contacts Pupils, Subject Teachers, Director of SEN, Parents/Carers, Heads and Assistant Heads of Year.

Main Purpose:

To act, under the guidance of teaching staff, as a Cover Supervisor for absent members of staff. This will involve covering timetabled lessons and delivering specified teaching and the supervision and management of class groups. Work will be overseen and you will be managed by a qualified teacher.

The role of Cover Supervisor will involve mentoring responsibilities for pupils identified as requiring support. The focus will be on supporting the improvement of learning and behaviour. It is envisaged that you will be attached to the PE faculty.

Key Responsibilities:

1.  To act as a Cover Supervisor responsible for supervising pupils completing work in a teaching environment. In this role you will act under the direction of a qualified teacher and be subject to the College’s Scheme of Supervision.

2.  To ensure that pupils complete work set and that the classroom/environment is managed during the cover period.

3.  When not involved in covering lessons, you will be timetabled to support the PE faculty in ensuring equipment and logistical tasks are completed to allow for a smooth running of both lessons and sporting fixtures

4.  To liaise with subject teachers and develop skills in delivering high quality cover lessons.

5.  To implement the Behaviour for Learning Policy in the teaching environment.

6.  To record rewards and sanctions on the College’s electronic monitoring system.

7.  To work collaboratively with subject teachers in the delivery of teaching and learning and to ensure that pupils' progress and experiences are recorded. These records will be used to inform Individual Education Plans and Pastoral Support Programmes.

8.  To contribute to the planning for the delivery of teaching and learning for pupils being supported, to an agreed schedule. This will involve the contributing to the preparation of teaching and learning materials and subject matter.

9.  To be familiar with the schemes and units of work used at both key stages in faculties.

10.  To liaise with the Academic Mentors in order to raise the attainment of pupils especially those with learning difficulties. This is in relation to specific targeted support on for example numeracy and literacy skills.

11.  To ensure that all records are updated and those with responsibility for monitoring are informed of pupils’ progress/behaviour.

12.  To Supervise of pupils in a range of settings and manage programmes of work.

13.  To invigilate examinations

Qualifications
Abilities
Experience / No Formal qualifications are required but the appointee must have good numeracy and literacy skills. GCSE Maths and English preferable
It would be advantageous if you were able to deliver Physical Education lessons and be passionate about sport.
The ability to work as a member of a Team
The ability to be able to mange work of competing priorities in an effective manner.
To have the ability to recognise potential barriers to learning and develop strategies to overcome these barriers.
To have experience of following procedures and instructions.
To have some experience of sport, playing/being involved in sport.
To have an empathy for working with pupils with learning difficulties.
To have experience of mentoring young people.
To have delivered training to other people
To have experience dealing / assisting with young people with challenging behaviour.
To have experience of establishing and maintaining accurate records.
To have established and developed successful working relationships with pupils, parents/carers, teachers and support staff in a variety of situations.
