WPS - Host Family Application

WATERFORD – WEIHAI EXCHANGE VISIT

SEPTEMBER 29 -OCTOBER 3, 2013

We’d like to extend an invitation to you as members of the Waterford school community to open your home for 4 nights to a student from our sister school, Weihai High School in Shandong, China. If you have already committed to serving as a host family, THANK YOU! Since home stay is an important way for our visitors to experience America, you will be contributing to student and family learning experiences for today and, more importantly, for a future we can just imagine. Not only are we all going to learn a lot, but we are going to have some fun and make some lasting friendships!

Learning happens everywhere and all the time. Twenty-first-century learning builds upon such past concepts of learning as “core knowledge in subject areas” and recasts them for today’s world, where a global perspective and collaboration skills are critical. Education must extend beyond our classrooms and school walls into the lives of every learner. Waterford High School is committed to preparing our students for a connected world.

The Waterford-China education connection was born in 2005, when a delegation from Waterford High School visited China with a group of Connecticut educators sponsored by the State Department of Education. Since then, Waterford High School and Weihai High School have participated in two exchanges of students and educators. In 2008 we hosted Weihai High School Principal Liu, Vice Principal Gwang, and a group of students. After that, a group of four Waterford High School students and two faculty members traveled to Beijing and Weihai from March 27 to April 7, 2013, for a school visit and home stay.

As always, do not hesitate to contact one of us with any questions.

Host family will:

1.  greet their students at the appointed place on Sunday, September 29.
