Warren Philharmonic Orchestra Opens Season Subscription Campaign
Magic! is the themefor the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra's 51st season featuring two public concerts on Sunday, October 30, 2016, and April 30, 2017, at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic Street, NE, Warren. Concerts begin at 3 p.m. Susan Davenny Wyner is musical director and conductor. Season subscriptions are available. Single performance tickets are available at the door. Children 12 and under are admitted free, when accompanied by an adult.
Magic Treats! are featured at the October 30, 2016, family concert, with rattling bones, dancing cowboys, a singing bullfighter and the soaring beauty of a solo violin. Magic indeed! The concert includes Danse Marabre by Camille Saint-Saëns;In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg;Toreador Song from Carmen by Georges Bizet; Largo al factotem from The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini; I bought Me a Cat by Aaron Copland, with soloist Brian Keith Johnson, baritone; Copland’s Hoe-Down from Rodeo; and Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor by Max Bruch, with orchestra concertmaster Joseph Kromholz as soloist. In addition, 2016 Art in Music prizewinners will be recognized.
Sweets of Spring! provides excitement, mystery, exotic landscapes and alluring dances to celebrate Spring! The orchestra will perform Euryanthe Overture by Carl Maria von Weber, Symphony No. 9 in C major (Unfinished) by Franz Schubert, Postcards From China by Bright Sheng, Orpheus Overture by Jacques Offenbach, and a set of Strauss favorites includingBlue Danube Waltz, Tritsch Tratsch Polka and Radetzky March. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet our own Strings of Joy students, beginning violinists from Trumbull County schools.
The Warren Philharmonic Orchestra is composed of some of the area’s finest professional musicians. In addition to two concerts for the public, the orchestra performs free school concerts for thousands of area school children. The Strings of Joy program provides free violin lessons to selected students in grades three through seven from Trumbull County schools.
The orchestra sponsors the Art in Music Contest for Trumbull County students in grades 3 through 8, where visual art is created about the orchestra's instruments and its music performed at each year's student concerts. Recognized worksexpress the entrants’ feelings about the music and the concert experience.Winning entries are recognized at the student concerts and at the October family concert. Details for the 2016 contest will be sent to area schools and are available on the orchestra’s website.
Season subscribers receive a ticket to each of our two concerts as well as one free ticket to bring a friend to either concert. And our flex plan allows the use any ticket for either concert this season.
