Thank You for Serving our Church
It is impossible to thank everyone by name who has served this church or the preceding churches. We have not done a very good job in doing that but we would like to get back on track. So thank you everyone who has served in the name of Christ!
We want to start recognizing servants who have served and for one reason or another have decided to step down and let someone else continue their ministry. We have recently had some individuals who have done that and we want to thank them!
Jim Ash for serving as our Mission Committee Chairperson and coordinating our monthly Food Pantry.

Seminar
A Home Invasion Defense Seminar is being offered on Monday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Heritage Room. Topics to be covered include: How to be safe in public; how to make your home less inviting to a break-in; what to do to the exterior of your home; how to make the interior of your home safer; every home should have a safe room; items to have in your safe room; what to do if you are home and have a home invasion. Ken Wilson is a NRA certified instructor in Pistol, shotgun, rifle, and personal protection in the home. He has done many seminars, and has taught the CCW class for 12 years along with self-defense training. This is an all church event, sponsored by the Lighthouse Ladies. Men, women, and youth are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
Musical Treat
Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 9th at 3:00 p.m. Join us for an afternoon of good music as we enjoy the musical talents of the Elders of Jazz and the Baldwin Wallace music majors who work at Camp I.D.E.A.S.
The Elders of Jazz is a group of amateur musicians who make a joyful noise to the Lord, by playing Dixieland Jazz. There is general agreement among scholars that religious music was one of the primary roots of jazz. Many of the songs played by the early New Orleans bands were spirituals or gospel songs and many of the occasions for which the music was played were religious occasions. The Elders of Jazz are going back to those roots in their music, seeking to praise God in their own special, joyous way!
Joining the Elders will be Cory and Alex, music majors from Baldwin Wallace College and in the summer, both work at Camp I.D.E.A.S. inspiring children with special needs through music.
Your souls will be blest during this program and following the program, we will be serving a light meal. This program is being sponsored by Camp I.D.E.A.S. to say thank you to the church, for housing and sponsoring Camp I.D.E.A.S. for 17 years.
Camp I.D.E.A.S.
The families and staff of Camp I.D.E.A.S. would like to thank everyone for their continued support of our Spaghetti Dinner and Live Auction. Your attendance, donations of desserts, bidding on items, etc. are so very much appreciated. Because of you and your prayers, we netted just over $10,000 for this summer's program.
Thanks and God Bless.
Carol Mathews and Sue Rufo
Summer Church Camp Sunday
Summer Church Camp Sunday is March 9. We will be "Passing the Can" at all three services on March 9 to support our children and youth who will be attending church camp this coming summer. An average week of camp cost $350.00 per person. We send a number of children and youth from our church to camp each year. This is a large expense for families that send two or three children. Whatever amount you are able to give will be very much appreciated. If you would like to continue to support our campers throughout the year, you may write "Summer Church Camp" in the other area of your offering envelope. Thank you for your ongoing support.
GIRL SCOUT NEWS
We started the month out by spending the afternoon swimming at Mercy Health Center’s pool. The water was chilly and it had a nice indoor slide. We attended an all-night skate; it takes 16 times around the rink to make a mile. One of the girls skated 23 miles before she fell asleep. Wedid spend the night at the palace movie theater. They had to cancel it last month due to all the snowflakes falling from the sky. We played games; watched movies and played hide & go seek. They had fun. The girls are still working on their bows & arrows, they are looking pretty good and we should be able to try them out in March. We had our huge girl scout Thinking Day event. We invited other troops, we got to sample foods from Scotland, Japan, Holland, Morocco, Italy, England, Ireland, Argentina, then learned the language of the fans and traded swaps. We had about 100 girls show up. We ended the month by attending a mall lock in at Southpark mall in Strongsville. There were about 3000 girls shopping most of the night, watching the group play the trash cans, singing angels started the night off with some great music and we watched a movie. Don't forget we are still selling cookies for $4.00 a box.

YOUTH GROUP NEWS
We started the month off by having a super bowl sub sale. Thank you all for supporting the kids. We also had a babysitting night afterwards and we went to an all-night skate at Skateworld. Kids collected money for the 30 hour famine by a flat rate or by how many miles they skated that night. We had a great turn out and a huge thank you goes out to Alice Carter for all the help and lost sleep. We ended the month by going to Winter Jam in Cleveland. We saw 10 great bands with the headliner of Newsboys. See everyone next month.
Youth group kids, Robin & Marvin.

Kairos Ministry
Kairos is coming again. Kairos is a ministry to the incarcerated, their families and incarcerators. Our goal is to bring the light of Christ into some of the darkest places in our world and you can help. On April 24th of this year, after six weeks of training and team preparation, three members of our congregation will once again be entering the chapel at Grafton Correctional Institution for a four-day program often called “a short course in Christianity.” With them, they will bring years of experience, and undying devotion to Jesus Christ, lots of food and COOKIES.
Each team member is tasked with supplying 150-200 dozen home baked cookies as well as $200 as their individual share of the cost of the weekend. That is where you can help. Lorain Lighthouse has been generous in the past, donating on average 150-160 dozen cookies to our efforts each weekend. But as we grow in our participation here at the Lorain Lighthouse, so do our needs. We will once again be collecting cookies here at the church for our general needs, but please consider contacting Bill Bruner, Steve Heard or Gary Williams to help them reach their goals.
This Kairos weekend, we have another way you can be a part of the Kairos Ministry. Ed and Sandy Price will be tasked with supplying the meals for the entire weekend and could certainly use your help in preparing and serving the more than 500 meals plus some fruit and vegetable snacks that are served during the weekend. We have arranged to use the kitchen at the church to do the food preparation and act as a staging location for delivery of the meals to the prison. This will be a wonderful opportunity for those who would love to help but can’t imagine themselves actually going inside. We may even ask some of the more stout-hearted of you to join us in actually serving the meals inside. What an adventure! Remember, Jesus offered us challenges, not comforts. Won’t you join us? See any of the LLUMC Kairos team members for more information. We will be providing updates for these opportunities often, so come join us.
