Weekly PayRange: $766.83 - $1,314.34with both Certifications

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:

The purpose of this classification, under general direction, is the inspection of residential units subject to city issued rental licenses and permits for compliance with nationally recognized housing standards and city ordinances; oversees that corrective measures of property maintenance code requirements for rental property are completed; assists in resolving property maintenance non-compliance issues and findings. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Training, and Experience):

High School diploma or GED; supplemented with at least five (5) years’ experience in building, housing or related regulatory inspections, code enforcement, inspection of properties for compliance with recognized standards, program development, and public presentations. Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. Requires FACE Level I certification; and ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification or Home Inspector Certification issued by the State of FL.

Candidate with one of the following: FACE Level I or ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification or Home Inspector Certification issued by the State of FL could be considered as a Trainee. (Hiring rate would be 8% less than above posted minimum rate until required certification is obtained within one year of hire.)

Must possess general understanding of modern inspection techniques and land legal descriptions; ability to make effective presentations; apply codes in a fair, equitable manner; deal with public in a diplomatic, effective fashion; perform research and write detailed reports; ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized and complex assignments and problems utilizing knowledge acquired through prior education, training, and experience. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Requires demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer and office software such as MS Word, MS Excel and electronic mail.
