¡Hóla Padres! (Hello Parents!)

My name is Ms. Alaina Schinn. I am a certified World Language (Spanish) teacher. This is my thirteenth year teaching at the Westwood/Washington Township elementary schools.

First graders are able to identify/recognize numbers from 1-20 in the target language and identify parts of the body through TPR (Total Physical Response) and games such as Simon Says. First graders are able to identify colors in Spanish through the use of games, video clips, TPR, and worksheets. They are also able to express the weather in Spanish. First graders are exploring the website It is a musical introduction to various themes/topics that they are acquiring. First graders are also engaging in “center” work during Spanish time.

Second graders are able to identify numbers 1-30 in the target language and identify parts of the body through Total Physical Response (TPR) and games such as Simon Says. Second graders are able to identify colors, numbers, and weather conditions in the target language through use of video clips, TPR, worksheets, and games. Second graders are exploring the website It is a musical introduction to various themes/topics that they are acquiring. Second graders are also engaging in “center” work during Spanish time.

Third graders are able to identify numbers, colors, weather, and parts of the body through Total Physical Response (TPR). They are able to express requests/permission in the target language. Furthermore, third graders can ask and answer basic questions in the target language (¿Cual es la fecha? ¿Cómo estás? etc). Third graders have question/answer sessions in during class time in the target language.

Fourth graders are able to identify numbers, colors, weather, and parts of the body through Total Physical Response (TPR). They are able to express requests/permission in the target language. Furthermore, fourth graders can ask and answer basic questions in the target language (¿Cual es la fecha? ¿Cómo estás? etc). Fourth graders have question/answer sessions in during class time in the target language. Furthermore, fourth graders are utilizing google classroom to complete Spanish assignments by utilizing chrome books and laptops.
