STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

-IN THE CLASSROOM-

ü  You may not leave your seat without permission.

ü  There is no eating, drinking, or gum chewing in class.

ü  Follow directions the FIRST time they are given.

ü  RAISE YOUR HAND and wait to be recognized before speaking in class. Shouting out and private conversations are not acceptable behaviors.

ü  RESPECT yourself and respect others. You should show respect and consideration for the needs, opinions, and rights of your teacher and you classmates. (At its basic level, keep your hands, feet, and all other objects to yourself.)

ü  When you leave the classroom every day, it should look the same as when you entered.

ü  ALL School procedures and regulations are to be followed while in class.

-PREPAREDNESS-

ü  Come to class EACH DAY with a three-ring binder, a pen, a covered textbook, your timetracker, and assigned work.

ü  When the final bell rings, you should be in your seat, quiet, and ready to begin by starting the “Do Now” activity.

ü  It is expected that ALL students will participate in ALL activities and discussions.

-ACADEMIC INTEGRITY-

ü  Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. If you are found to be engaging in such behavior there will be serious and immediate consequences (zero given for the work in question, parental/guardian notification, and discipline referral).

ü  Outside research on topics is always encouraged. If you choose to do outside research, you MUST cite your source. Please use MLA format of citation. See me if you need help citing properly.

-HOMEWORK-

ü  It is the RESPONSIBILITY OF STUDENTS to inform themselves of homework assignments that are due. Assignments will be announced orally in class and/or posted on my faculty homework page (which can be accessed from the LRHS website). Students are responsible for completing all homework assignments. If an assignment has been modified, is not listed on my faculty homework page, or if you are unable to access my faculty homework page for any reason, your homework is still due on schedule.

ü  All work assigned for the class is due on the assigned day. If there is an exceptional circumstance, I will make a decision on a case-by-case basis.

ü  Assignments must be turned in on paper, NOT through email, unless otherwise specified.

ü  Extra copies of assignments or handouts will NOT be made for you. If you loose something, you must get it from a classmate or download it from my homework site (if available).

ü  I reserve the right to assign additional assignments at any point.

-LATE ASSIGNMENTS-

ü  If you are having problems with an assignment, see me before the day it is due. Always make an attempt to complete the assignment – even if you think it is incorrect.

ü  Late HOMEWORK assignments will be accepted up to ONE day late for 1/2 credit , after which they not be accepted.

ü  LONG-TERM ASSIGNMENTS, such as reports, projects, and essays will lose ONE GRADE VALUE for EACH DAY late and will NOT BE ACCEPTED after 3 days.

ü  If you are LEGALLY ABSENT for a FULL day, you may hand in the previous day’s homework assignment(s) with NO penalty the DAY YOU RETURN.

ü  If you are IN SCHOOL for ANY PART OF THE DAY, but are not in class when an assignment is due, you must still hand in your assignment that day to avoid a late penalty. You must plan ahead if you will be arriving late or leaving school early for any reason, such as a field trip or a doctor’s appointment.

ü  It is your responsibility to get any notes you missed from a classmate and see me for any required makeup work during your absence. You must turn in any missed classwork within 1 week. Put the date of the absence on the top of the paper, or it will be considered late.

ü  All missed work due to absence will be entered as a zero until it is made up and stay a zero if not made up.

-MAKE-UP TESTS-

ü  If you are late to school or in school, but not in class for an excusable reason, find me and arrange to take the test at a mutually acceptable time.

ü  If you are absent the day of a quiz or test, plan to take it the DAY YOU RETURN. You should email me the day before or see me first thing in the morning (prior to block 1 or during homeroom) to arrange to take the test/quiz at a mutually convenient time during the day.

ü  For extended illnesses, consult with me to arrange an acceptable time frame.

-LATES-

ü  Come in quietly, hand me your pass (if you have one) and take your seat.

ü  Remember that all LRHS policies on tardiness apply and will be enforced.

ü  3 lates = teacher detention. 6 lates = 2 hour Saturday detention. 9 lates = 4 hour Saturday detention.

ü  You are considered late if you are not in your seat by the time the final bell rings.

-CUTS-

ü  1st Offense = assigned teacher detention, zero given for missed or collected work, student/guidance counselor conference, parent contact/notice to parent and 2 hour Saturday in-school suspension.

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES

ü  I will make every effort to return assignments that I collect in a timely fashion.

ü  I am available for extra-help after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays from 3 pm to 4 pm in room 405. I will inform you in advance of which day I will be available during the week. My scheduled extra-help days will be listed on my faculty web-page each month.

ü  I will make myself available if needed otherwise at a mutually convenient time. You can arrange for extra help by speaking with me after class, by leaving a note in my mailbox (located in the West Building across from the S.O.A.R. room), or by sending me an email.

ü  Parents and students can reach me via email at . I will usually respond to your email within the day or the next day during regular school operating hours from Monday to Friday. If possible, I prefer communication via email. I check my email several times a day, and it is the quickest and most reliable way to communicate, other than in person.

[CLASS PHILOSOPHY]

Individual achievements are accomplished through group effort. This class should be a place where we all feel comfortable coming together once a day to share and exchange ideas. There is no such thing as a stupid question… a question is valid if you do not know the answer… so do not be afraid to ask!

I believe that communication is a vital factor in a student’s success. I hope that both students and parents do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns they may have.

MY BEST WISHES FOR A SUCCESSFUL YEAR!
