Contact Information:

Purpose: To provide health care students an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge of common skills and information necessary to the Medical Assistant in both administrative and clinical roles.

Contestants will be assessed on their knowledge of Medical Assistant practices, including but not limited to, basic safety and infection control, law and ethics, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, illness and disease, pharmacology, basic medical mathematics, front office/administrative procedures, and clinical duties.

Uniform Requirements:

§  Uniform-Official school scrubs. No name or official school logo shall be visible on any clothing item.

§  Shoes/socks-White socks or skin-tone seamless hose. White health professional work shoes, vinyl or leather. No canvas shoes. No open toe or open heel shoe. Athletic style white shoes that meet the criteria are permitted. White shoe laces.

§  Tattoos-All visible tattoos must be covered with clothing.

§  Jewelry-Limit of three (3) studded ear piercings per ear (including cartilage and tragus piercings). One ring per hand; no raised stones in rings. One short necklace permitted. All facial piercings should be removed.

§  Nails should be clean and neatly trimmed, no longer than 1/8 inch in length. Nail polish must not be chipped. Polish limited to clear or pastel colors. No artificial nails, acrylic nails, crackle, sparkle, or gel polish. No nail jewels or stickers.

§  Hair-Hair must be pulled back away from face and off shoulders while performing skills. Only natural hair colors are permitted (colors which are naturally present at birth). Mustaches and beards should be well groomed.

Supplied by the contestant:

§  One pair of sterile gloves

§  Disposable gloves

§  Stethoscope

§  Wrist watch with second hand

§  Pencil and pen (black or blue ink)

§  Supplies specific to each skill simulation
