Unit Statement: The student will learn about how and why we compare governments and basic concepts and key terms associated with the subject.

Essential Outcomes: (must be assessed for mastery)

1.  The Student Will describe the function of government and the purpose of comparing various governments.

2.  TSW identify and compare the views of major thinkers in comparative politics.

3.  TSW identify and make basic comparisons of various types of government.

4.  TSW identify and compare the three types of political legitimacy.

5.  TSW analyze the sources and patterns of ethnic and national conflict.

6.  TSW compare and contrast the following political attitudes and ideology: liberalism, social democracy, fascism, communism, and anarchy.

7.  TSW define and apply Key Terms and Concepts.
