Position Description: Military Sealift Command Central, Ship Support Unit (MSCCENT SSU) Bahrain is looking for Strategic Sealift Officers to assist with MSC Port Engineer responsibilities to USNS vessels in the Fifth Fleet AOR.

Strategic Sealift Reservists would be asked to shadow and support SSU port engineers in their day-to-day activities to better build a resource for contingency purposes, increase deck plate visibility onboard vessels in repair periods, and allow greater reporting of to Port Engineer during repair periods.

Responsibilities of this position would be to supplement the civilian port engineer assisting with voyage repairs and learning various points of contact to enable the port engineer to provide a broader range of service for USNS vessels. Briefs and updates would be generated and briefed to the CDRE, CTF-53/MSCCENT Staff and NAVCENT personnel.

Minimum Qualifications Desired: Applicants should be a qualified, currently sailing merchant mariners holding at least a USCG 2nd Assistant Engineer's license; they should possess the knowledge of current commercial shipping repair industry practices and standards.

Current Secret or higher Clearance. This is a show-stopper. You can verify the date of your most recent clearance in NSIPS: View Personal Information, Member Data Summary, in the Security section you will see Clearance DT. Your SECRET clearance is good for 10 years from this date – unless invalidated by a criminal event or certain foreign contacts.

US Passport with 6 month validity. Bahrain only requires Approved NROWS Orders and your CAC ID for entry/exit purposes. The passport is required to travel into and out of the US.

Additional qualifications:

1- Applicant should possess a Degree in Marine Engineering, current USCG license.

2- Applicant should be familiar with Shipboard Regulatory bodies (ABS and USCG).

3- Applicant will serve as an assistant port engineer for various classes of MSC ships.

4 -Applicant will take inputs from Voyage Repair Requests, Casualty Reports, condition Reports and generate service order and government estimates accordingly.

5- The applicant should be self-starting and capable of performing port engineer duties, and ship repair work with little supervision.

Additional Remarks: ADT will be performed in Bahrain with possible further assignment to various ports in the AOR. This will only be available on a as per need basis. An Official Passport and UAE visa will be required for future ADT opportunities. Ideal candidate sould have 6 plus years of MSC/Commercial sailing experience; a First Assistant USCG license or higher; and/or current Port Engineer, Surveyor or ship yard worker in civilian profession.

Uniform: Uniform will be NWU Type I or Type III for in office work. One set will be sufficient. Any work being performed outside a Navy facility will require civilian work clothes; civilian coveralls are acceptable.
