RENAISSANCE ARTISTS

ASSIGNMENT: The goal of this assignment is for you to learn about the importance of Renaissance art. Each of you will be required to research specific information regarding an Italian or Northern Renaissance artist. This information will be compiled into a pamphlet (using Microsoft Publisher) about the assigned artist.

IMPORTANT: The information provided in the booklet must be summarized and paraphrased in your own words.

Page One: (Front Cover)

  • Name of the artist, image of the artist, and dates he was born and died.
  • Designate whether your artist was an Italian Renaissance artist or a Northern Renaissance artist.
  • Your name and class period in the bottom right hand corner.

Page Two: (Back of the Front Cover)

  • Background History (Artist’s biography)

Page Three:(Masterpiece #1)

  • Display one significant work of the artist that best represents his genius and the Renaissance period
  • An image of the masterpiece
  • A description of the masterpiece
  • The significance of the masterpiece

Page Four:(Masterpiece #2)

  • Display the second significant work of the artist that best represents his genius and the Renaissance period
  • An image of the masterpiece
  • A description of the masterpiece
  • The significance of the masterpiece

Page Five: (Masterpiece #3)

  • Display the third significant work of the artist that best represents his genius and the Renaissance period
  • An image of the masterpiece
  • A description of the masterpiece
  • The significance of the masterpiece

Page Six: (Summary)

  • A summary of the overall, long-term impact of the contributions of your Renaissance artist.

Page Seven:(Works Cited)

  • Bibliography or Works Cited
  • You may use “Noodle Bib” for this page
  • Any image used in the pamphlet should have a URL under the picture to indicate the source from which the visual wastaken.An alternative to the URL under the image wouldbe to include the same source from whichthe visual was taken in your bibliography.

You may compile your booklet/pamphlet in any appropriate style. The goal is to be sure that your booklet is organized in an orderly fashion that is easy to read and is informative.

NOTE: If you are doing a brochure, you may combine pages 6 and 7.

Consult the SimsburyHigh School’s databases (to which you were introduced in the freshmen orientation in the fall) for your research. You may consult these databases from home. Additionally, the LMC staff will introduce Internet sources not in the databases during the first day in the library.Wikipedia is NOT allowed.You may also consult any books that you may find useful (library books, magazines, encyclopedias, textbook, etc.) These sources should also be included in your bibliography.

Remember, you scan a photograph or image from a book and electronically insert it into your booklet. Mr. B can show you how to do this.

  • The “How To” button will give you instruction on topics such as Noodle Bib, Notecards, and making a brochure.
  • The Databases button will give you a listing of all the library databases.
  • The Library Lessons button will allow you to select your teacher and theassignment , “Renaissance Artists.” Once you have accessed the assignment titled “Renaissance Artists”, you will find a listing of the databases and a listingof free internet sites that will best help you with your research.

This assignment will count 30 points. Full credit will not be given for late assignments. One full letter grade will be deducted per day late. I will provide the grading rubric on Monday of next week.
