SESSION I: FRIDAY, AUGUST 19, 2:00 – 3:30

Challenge Course

The challenge course is a series of elements (outside, behind the high ropes) that a group of people need to work together to solve - some are physically demanding (passing people through elements like a spider web, balance on a telephone pole and reorganize into different order), to more mentally challenging activities to come up with various solutions to move the group though various elements/challenges. This group activity requires no more of you than a willingness to work with others and learn from the experience. It’s a blast! Max: 14 participants

Honoring Choices: Advance Care Planning

Who would speak for you if you couldn't speak for yourself? The best time to develop an Advance Care Plan is now- not when faced with a crisis. There is no easy way to plan for future health care choices. It's a process that involves thinking and talking about complex and sensitive issues. In this session we will look at why everyone over the age of 18 should be completing a Health Care Directive, what that involves, and learn about the important conversations you should be having with your loved ones now. You will leave with all the tools you need to complete your Health Care Directive, including the document itself, as well as hand outs that will help you understand more about the choices you have, and the terms used in Advance Care Planning.Fee, to be paid to instructor: $4.00.

Leader: Rose Umland is a trained Advanced Care Planning Facilitator in Honoring Choices. She works as a Parish Nurse and Lay Minister to Children & Families at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN. She lives in Plymouth, MN with her husband Mike. They have four daughters who are all in their twenties. Her home away from home is on a lake in Cross Lake MN.

SESSION III: SATURDAY, AUGUST 19, 4:00 – 5:30

Taking a Fresh Look at Genesis

Genesis is full of stories that are iconic to biblical literature: Creation, the Ark, the Burning Bush. Yet collectively, the Book of Genesis is a story of how God calls us to be in community with one another, creation, and God. From the Book of Genesis, we get a glimpse into how church is called to be in community. We will engage in these familiar stories from a fresh perspective.

Leader: our keynote, Rev. Theresa Cho

Dreamcatchers

The Waiting book discussion

Our book discussion this summer is a good read-- The Waiting by Cathy LaGrow. In 1928, 16 year old Minka and her friend were brutally assaulted while attending a sewing class picnic after church. It resulted in Minka becoming pregnant, giving her baby up for adoption, and a lifetime of longing for her daughter, Betty Jane. It’s a true story of hope, miracles, and a mother who never gave up.

Leader: Lola Baxter has been a Chrysalis Steering Committee member for many years. As a young girl she enjoyed reading the whole series of Nancy Drew mysteries during one summer, and still can’t get enough books to read!! She also likes to cook, entertain, journal, knit and garden, along with many other creative passions!
