Worksheet for Determining “Potential” Eligibility to Apply

for Range Elevation

(This is a “Worksheet” only. Do not submit with application.)

Minimum eligibility requirements

According to the Unit 3 Collective Bargaining Agreement 12.17, to be eligible to apply for the annual range elevation process, a lecturer must first have:

(1) No more eligibility for salary increases pursuant to provision 12.10 in their current range (this occurs only when contract negotiates service salary increases (SSIs))

(2) Have served five (5) years in their current range with the same department

A lecturer must meet these first two requirements, and then check the department range elevation criteria for additional information about how to apply. If you are unsure whether you meet the first two requirements, follow the steps below to help you review your own eligibility.

What is LECTURER RANGE?

Every Lecturer is in one of five possible ranges: Lecturer L, Lecturer A, Lecturer B, Lecturer C or Lecturer D. Each range has a minimum and maximum monthly salary. Within each range, there is a point called the service maximum, also known as the SSI Maximum.

Step 1: Obtain your lecturer range and monthly Base Pay amount.

Employment information is available from your appointment letter and on-line through the Portal at my.fullerton.edu – just click Titan On-Line to access employee self-service information. There is a box on your appointment letter which states your monthly Base Pay amount.

Step 2: Determine whether you areeligible to receive SSIs in your current position.

The requirement that a lecturer have “no more eligibility for salary increases pursuant to provision 12.10” is defined as: 1) your salary being at or above the SSI maximum or 2) receiving four (4) steps on the salary schedule in effect prior to 1995-1996 or 3) receiving eight (8) SSIs under the current salary schedule or 4) a combination of both 2 and 3. In order to be eligible for Range Elevation you must be ineligible for Service Salary Increases (SSIs) in your current position. Note that most lecturers at CSUF won’t be eligible to apply for range elevation because they are still eligible for SSIs. The easiest way to determine whether you meet this requirement is to compare the monthly base pay amount to the Service Maximum for your position.

Your Current Range
(Choose one) / Service Maximum (for an Academic Year Lecturer, full-time)* / Write your monthly Base Pay amount here**
Lecturer L / $3547.00
Lecturer A / $4596.00
Lecturer B / $5769.00
Lecturer C / $7273.00

* if you are in a 12 month, year-round position, contact Faculty Affairs and Records to find out the Service Maximum.

** If you are a part-time employee, be sure to use the monthly Base Pay amount on your appointment letter, not your actual monthly salary. The Base Pay amount is the amount you would make if you were full-time. For further assistance, contact the FAR office.

Compare your Base Monthly Salary to the Service Maximum. If the base is higher, then normally that lecturer is not eligible to receive more SSIs. If the Base Monthly Salary is lower, the lecturer is still eligible to receive SSIs (and thus not yet eligible to apply for range elevation).

Step 3. Verify that you have been in your current range with the same department since the 2012-2013 Academic Year or earlier.

EXAMPLES

* Full-Time Lecturer: Prof. Mick has been teaching as a full-time lecturer since Fall 2011. He is a Lecturer A with a current monthly salary of $4300 per month. The Service Maximum for a Lecturer A is $4143 per month. Mick will have been in this position for five years by the end of this school year, and he can’t receive any more SSIs in this position because his Base Pay is higher than the Service Maximum number. He meets both of the minimum eligibility requirements.

* Part-Time Lecturer: Prof. Bristol has been teaching at part-time for over five years, since Fall 2009. Bristol’s is Lecturer A with a current monthly salary of $2100 (because she works half-time), and the Base Pay is $4200. This Base Pay amount is compared to the Service Maximum for a Lecturer A, which is $4143. She meets both of these eligibility requirements.

* Not serving in the current position long enough: Prof. Royce was hired as a Lecturer B starting in Fall 2013. Regardless of his Base Pay amount, Royce is not eligible to apply for a range elevation this year because he has not been in the same range with the same department for the required amount of time.

FAQ

How much will my salary increase if a range elevation is approved by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs?

A range elevation is normally accompanied by a 5% increase in salary or an increase to the minimum salary of the next range, whichever is higher.
