WorkSafe Country Championships Welcome
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2015 AFL Victoria Worksafe Country Championships.
The WorkSafe Country Championships have become one of the highlights on the country football calendar and an event that captures the attention of football lovers in all corners of the state.
Since the rankings system was implemented we have seen renewed enthusiasm for representative football from both players and supporters alike.
The pride of pulling on the colours of your league can’t be underestimated and we wish you all the best as you test your talents at a higher level.
Learning from new coaches and fellow players outside of your normal club environment presents a fantastic opportunity to improve your skills and knowledge of the game.
Playing representative football is also a fantastic way to build new friendships, bonds that so often extend long after your football career is over.
It is also an important weekend for the more than 200 field, boundary and goal umpires who will be officiating in matches across the state.
All umpires appointed to games this weekend are members of the V/Line Umpire Academy which helps develop talented whistle blowers and compliments the training and coaching conducted by their local umpiring group.
To those volunteers and supporters that have forgone a weekend off to contribute to the WorkSafe Country Championships, we thank you for your commitment and passion.
AFL Victoria Country selectors will be watching closely at all of the 16 matches with an eye on selecting the best players for scheduled representative matches against the Victorian Amateur Football Association on Saturday July 11.
Vic Country No.1, which will include the best players from all competitions in country Victoria, will meet the VAFA Premier side in a blockbuster clash at Bendigo’s Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Vic Country No.2 – selected from leagues outside of the top ten rankings – will take on (VAFA Premier B – Division 4) after the Vic Country U19s have gone head to head with the VAFA U19s.
Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our naming rights partner WorkSafe for their continued support country football.
