Dublin Core Crosswalks

The DC Builder service uses a Dublin Core template maintained by the Colorado Digitization Program. Information about elements and refinements included in the DC Builder Metadata Element Set can be found on the CDP website

For each metadata set please submit a Work Order, Metadata set, and completed Crosswalk.

File naming conventions for submitting crosswalks:

Prefix_institutioncode_projectname.extension

MD / Metadata
XWK / Crosswalk
WO / Work Order

Examples:

MD_CDP_Sample.xls
MD_CDP_Sample.mrc / A CDP sample metadata set
XWK_CDP_Sample.xls / The crosswalk for the metadata set
WO_CDP_Sample.doc / Work order for the metadata loading.

Work Orders

Work orders help track submitted metadata sets and loading.

  • Institution Name/Institution Code should be the same as they appear in the DC Builder form.
  • Enter any special instructions in the Comments field.

Non-MARC Crosswalks

  1. Complete a Work Order (see sample below) with any special instructions in the Comment field.
  2. Modify the Database to DC Crosswalk template (see sample below) to include locally used fields.
  3. Specify the DC Refinements and Schemes for the field if appropriate (i.e. URLs in the Identifier field should include the URI scheme)
  4. FTP the Work Order, Metadata set, and Crosswalk to the appropriate location
  5. Notify CDP that data is ready to be loaded.

!

Note: It is possible to include custom field values that are not included in the raw metadata set. For custom field values enter Value = “value”in the appropriate field. Please note on the Work Order Comments that Custom values have been used in the Crosswalk.

MARC Crosswalks

  1. Complete a Work Order (see sample below) with any special instructions in the Comment field.
  2. Modify the MARC to DC Crosswalk template (see sample below) to include locally used MARC tags (Some MARC tags appear in more than one place).
  3. Specify any MARC subfields to include. Blank cells take ALL subfields (a-z)
  4. Remove any unused MARC tags and subfields from the template.
  5. Specify the DC Refinements and Schemes for the field if appropriate (i.e. URLs in the Identifier field should include the URI scheme).
  6. FTP the Work Order, Metadata set, and Crosswalk to the appropriate location.
  7. Notify CDP that data is ready to be loaded.

!

Note: It is possible to include custom field values that are not included in the raw metadata set. For custom field values enter Value = “value”in the appropriate field. Please note on the Work Order Comments that Custom values have been used in the Crosswalk.
