Goal # 1
Strides for creating a computing environment of reliable network service, stable servers, customized applications, and comprehensive computing facilities for students, faculty and staff. Enhances the security of the computing environment through virus scanning, patch management, regular backups of critical data, and other security-related efforts. / ESF goals # 1, 2 / Survey faculty/staff/students;
System level analysis / Survey indicated
82% faculty/staff consider computer network very good/good;
85% faculty/staff consider servers very good/good;
67% consider desktop computers good / Continue data network infrastructure upgrade (Jahn, Bray, etc.) and improve reliability /redundancy through underground infrastructure upgrade project (next year.)
Goals # 2
Monitors new trends in the information and instructional technology fields and develops and implements new technologies that are tailored to meet ESF’s needs and goals. ESF IT promotes “Green IT” whenever possible in our practice.

Adopting new technology to save energy usage. / Only purchase Energy Star labeled equipment;
VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) project kicked off in fall 2011 and will be implemented gradually campus wide.
Goal #3
Promotes and facilitates research computing efforts via providing system-level consultation and technical advice to ESF research community.
/ ESF goals #1, 2 / Effective communication with the Research Office, and Business Office. / A High Performance Computing Cluster was funded and installed; It has been used by faculty members in Dept. Chemistry and Environmental Resources Engineering. / Continue collaboration with Academic Division and secure funding and support for HPCC
Goal # 6
Through active participation and collaborates with SUNY Central Administration and Syracuse University to ensure compliance with related IT standards and guidelines. / ESF goals # 5 / Evaluation and comparison with our counterpart at other colleges and universities / Following NYS and SUNY Central’s security advice for information security related issues.
Communicate with other SUNY campuses in the region / A network security scan workshop scheduled in September;
Working with Info Security officer and HR in improving campus information security (ongoing.)
Meeting scheduled with CIOs of Oswego, OCC, and CCC. Seeking collaboration opportunities.
