Word of Life Baptist Church Calls New Lead Pastor
Reverend Scott Joy Selected to Lead Word of Life Baptist Church
Alpena, MI, December 15, 2013— The congregation of Word of Life Baptist Church has voted to call Reverend Scott Joy as its new Lead Pastor.
The congregational meeting and vote was held at noon following the Sunday morning 10:45 AM service and despite the wintery weather and slick road conditions the membership showed their support and overwhelmingly voted to extend the call.“Reverend Scott Joy brings significant qualities to the pastorate. He is from Alpena and understands our community,”stated Jim Makowske, Word of Life Pastoral Search Team Leader.“He is a humble servant of God, a fervent student of the Bible and has a heart for shepherding. He was the obvious choice for Word of Life Baptist Church.”
For the past year Pastor Joy has been preaching on a rotation and helping lead the church with a group of fellow elders.In his own words,“I can’t begin to express how deeply honored I am to serve as the Lead Pastor at Word of Life Baptist Church. This is my home church. Over 28 years ago, they affirmed God’s call on my life and sent me off to serve in the ministry, pastoring churches in South Dakota and Alberta,Canada. Linda and I have been blessed to live in a number of beautiful settings, including the eastern foothills of the Rocky Mountains. However, Alpena has never left our hearts. This is home! Because of an illness, I returned to Alpena 7 Years ago, again with WOL’s loving support. As my health has begun to improve, I am extremely humbled that they would ask me to serve alongside the elders to shepherd and lead this church. I’m looking forward to building upon a rich heritage of God’s work in and through this precious congregation and church family.”
About Word of Life Baptist Church
Word of Life Baptist Church, located at 1900 N Bagley, was founded in 1884 as a ministry of German Baptists. Through the years the church has been located at, and named, Fourth Baptist, Ripley Blvd. Baptist and then in 1993, moved to its current location on Bagley, along the Thunder Bay River.Word of Life has about 240 members and is connected to the North American Baptist Conference and the Great Lakes Association of Churches. This ties them to like churches in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
