“A Quest for Excellence”

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the Business Information Management 1 (BIM 1)course. I am glad your child chose to include technology in your schedule at Woodcreek Middle School. We are excited to offer this course at the middle school level to 8th-grade students. Because of the advanced nature of this computer course, 1-point high school credit will be given to those students who pass the full year, including final exam each semester, with a 70% or higher.

In this course, we will learn skills that will be extremely useful in high school, college, and the workplace. We will focus on the Microsoft Office 2016 Suite including Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, & PowerPoint. They will learn:

To meet these goals, I plan to provide individual and group instructional activities. It is a project-based course and all assessments will consist of a production component. All assignments will be posted on the whiteboard in the classroom for students, as well as Google Classroom. A separate email will be sent to the email address associated with the Home Access (HAC) account to grant parents and guardians access to Google Classroom.

There is a $10 fee required by the district for the BIM 1course. The link to pay the feeis on my school website. There is a $1 charge for paying online. However, you may send $10 cash only to class with your student. Please pay course fees by February 16, 2017.

Although the district has a B.Y.O.D. (Bring Your Own Device Policy), it only relates to the use in class as instructed. Students will not be allowed to use their personal devices for communication outside of the classroom via text, social media, or phone. If there is an emergency, you will be contacted by the front office.

Please remember you have signed the Acceptable and Responsible Use Policies for the district for computer use, please make sure your child is aware of the conditions of these policies. If they are violated, the student may be disqualified from using the district’s computer equipment.

If you would like to donate facial tissue and hand sanitizer to the class they will be greatly appreciated. Students will receive a P.R.I.D.E. ticket for each item. They can be used around school for different privileges. If at any time you need to contact me, please feel free to call me at (281) 641-5292, or email me at .

Sincerely,
