Scoreboard Update: Darrin Kitchen showed us pictures of the new multi-use scoreboard, which will enable boosters to sell advertising spots. The Scoreboard has been ordered and the goal is to have it installed during the football season. Engineering and maintenance is covered. Training will be provided to groups planning to use it. Darrin will discuss advertising criteria and rate consistency offered to different boosters. Mr. Alfaro offered to help with advertising ideas.

Budget Update: Previously allocated funds ($9k) was transferred to help pay for the scoreboard. Megan Christian discussed a proposal to revitalize the library. Changes/upgrades include removing a bank of computers, more seating, new tables, refurbishment of some counters, and add a TV. The bulk of the expense will be furniture. The latest estimate for tables, countertops and new chairs is $20,687.09. Megan mentioned that implementation of Common Core will increase the use of the library. She will get an updated quote for our next meeting.

New Business

Restructured Course Proposal- Jeff Bailey explained the Course Proposal for the Construction and Energy Technology Class. The goal is to integrate the Integrated Math 1 class and increase the number of non-traditional students, particularly females. Motion to approve the course proposal passed (Kitchen/Spahr).

LCAP review – Numerous programs have been proposed and some are already in place. The State of California provided 1.7 million dollars for this program for the 2014/2015 school year. 3.2 million dollars will be provided by the State next year.

Identifying Areas of Focus & Interest: As a result of our WASC mid-year review, WHS had a goal to introduce Integrated Math 1, which is aligned with Common Core. Integrated Math allows student to learn math in a unique way. Teachers are working together as a cohort.

Melanie Boise mentioned that some teachers are feeling overwhelmed by what may be transitional behavior issues for freshman. These issues are conflicting with the “Woodcreek Way.” We need to be proactive with freshman on both academic and social/emotional issues. There may be a lack of accountability with grading and homework in the middle schools that attribute to freshman not recognizing the impact of their academic choices. The Freshman Mentors are working hard on all of this. Darren said it was discussed to have a WHS teacher work with the ninth grade teachers regarding transition issues. Denise Burns mentioned that consistency in discipline is very important. We discussed the possibility of doing a survey to find out how many students by grade level joined a club.

Student Report: None, as our student reps are new.

ELAC: The U. S. Army presented information regarding career opportunities at the last ELAC meeting. Parents really appreciated the information. ELAC families will plan a field trip to CSU East Bay. ELAC parents have invited to participate in a 12-week course computer course provided by the district. The course teachers parents how to navigate homelink, etc.
