Hi all,

With just over a week until Laps for Charity, we wanted to explain the process to all those who may be new to it and to remind others of all the details! It’s not too late to participate in this fun, important team event!

What:Laps for Charity is MFSC’s version of a swim-a-thon.It’s a simple, in-pool fundraiser where the kids earn money by swimming lengths of the pool during a fun, team building event. Swimmers ask family members, friends, neighbors, or businesses to pledge a certain amount of money per length, or make a flat donation of support. Donations are tax deductible. Each group has a different amount of maximum lengths they can swim during their designated time. Each swimmer can set a goal for how many lengths they would like to accomplish. There will be counting sheets available at the event for parents to use to count swimmer’s lengths for them. Swimmers are not allowed to use fins, but may use kickboards to kick if desired.

Groups / 2017 Max Lengths
GS / 260 (6,500 yards)
SS / 260 (6,500)
BS / 240 (6,000)
GA / 200(5,000)
SA / 180 (4,500)
BA / 140 (3,500)
GN / 100 (2,500)
SN / 80 (2,000)

When:Thursday, May 18th. There will be no regular practice that night.Seniors and SA/GA swim3:45-5:45 pm(max 2 hours). All other groups swim6:15-7:45 pm(max 1.5 hours). Arrive by5:30to check in for the pie-in-the-face event which will be5:45-6:15outside in courtyard by pool entrance. Back by popular demand, this will take the place of the dunk tank this year. Swimmers will get a chance to smash a pie in the coach’s face -see incentives below.

How:Go to the MFSC website, find the Laps for Charity event under the team functions tab on the events page, hit edit commitment and say Yes, sign my swimmer(s) up for this event. The day of the event, there will be a check in table. Be ready to tell the volunteer your swimmer’s t-shirt size and how much money the swimmer(s) have raised. The swimmer will then receive tickets for the pie event based on amount raised. Also under the event on the website, you will find forms to use to keep track of all your donations as well as tax receipts you can fill out to give to donators. Money can be turned in either at the event or into the pool lock box by June 5th. The minimum donation to participate in Laps for Charity is $20. Checks should be made to MFSC.

Why:MFSC is once again donating majority of proceeds to Make-A-Wish! This year, we are sponsoring Owen who is the 4-year-old cousin of 2 of our own MFSC swimmers (Kailyn and Connor Benoit). Owen is battling Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) and he wishes to go to Disney! If he is feeling up to it, he will be coming to our event and may like to smash a pie or two! Pictures of Owen and more of his story can be found on the bulletin board at the pool.

Incentives:

Coaches are running weekly incentives (game time at practice) for most kids signed up per group and most donations per group!

Free raffles at the event- lots of good giveaways, lots of treats (including the popcorn machine!) and music during the event!

Prizes: $100 raised = swim-cap, $250 raised = t-shirt.

Free 30min private lesson to top 6 kids bringing in the most in donations.

Every $150 raised will earn one throw of a pie at a coach of swimmer’s choice.

(Prizes will be awarded per swimmer, not total family amount)

Volunteers:We are looking for a few volunteers to help with the pie throwing event. Please email Leslie Olson if interested in . Also, watch for a food donation sign up coming soon!

Thanks,

Coach Scott
