Educational ToursThe BSW III students led by their Class Director Dr Naveenchandran and Associate Professor Ms Rekha Dandekar visited the institutions in Wardha as part of their educational tour on 1st December. The group visited : a) Kamalnayan Jamnalal Foundation, b) Maharogi Sewa Samiti, c) Centre of Science for Villages, d) Bapu Kuti, and e) Vishwa Shanti Stoopa. The MSW II students toured Hyderabad accompanied by Ms Rashmi Babhulkar (Tour Director), Ms Mrinal Joshi and Mr Barnic Gangmei from 5-10 December and visited a total of ten agencies. The agencies were selected keeping in mind the electives of the students.
Communal Harmony Day Commemorated
On 29th November the Students’ Council of the Institute commemorated the Communal Harmony Day. Well known trade unionist and social activist Mr Jammu Anand was the Chief Guest. In his speech he exhorted the students to commit themselves to fight the forces that striving to divide and weaken the country on communal lines. He said that it is vital to have a mindset which perceives all religious groups as equal in order to truly promote communal harmony. Dr John Menachery introduced the Mr Anand. A fund collection drive was also undertaken to support the ‘National Foundation for Communal Harmony’.
Best Wishes
Dr Keshav Walke (Assistant Professor on lien) has joined as Principal at the Aniket College of Social Work, Wardha with effect from 1st January 2011. Best wishes to Dr Walke for an excellent career.
Fond Farewell
Mr Dhannuram Sahu who served the Institute since 1980 retired from active service on 30th November 2010. Mr Sahu was given a fond farewell on the occasion of his superannuation 2nd December 2010. Mr Sahu has plans to continue as support staff of the Institute in the days to come.
Ms Utkarsha Authey Interfaces with
Former President of India
Ms Utkarsha Authey (Rt in picture) of BSW 2 had a rare opportunity to meet Mr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India on 14th Nov when the latter visited ‘Dalit Sangh’ in Sohagpur, Hoshangbad, MP. He was very keen to learn from Utkarsha about our Institute and its activities. Mr Kalam conveyed his best wishes to the students and staff of the Institute. Well done Utkarsha.
Faculty Participation in Conferences etc.
Dr Arun Kumar functioned as the Chief Guest at the ‘International Non-violence Day’ on 2nd October 2010 observed on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti by the NSS Department of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek, and delivered a lecture on “Gandhian Thought and Non-Violence”. Dr Arun Kumar also delivered lectures for the PG Diploma students in Gandhian Thought at the Institute of Gandhian Studies, Wardha on 18th and 19th October.
Dr Keshav Walke Functioned as member of the selection committee for selecting lectures at the Athawale College of Social Work, Chimur on 27th November.
Ms Anuradha Joshi, Dr Prajakta Tanksale and Dr John Menachery attended a Workshop on “Sensitisation & Updation as to Juvenile Justice” organized by the Nagpur District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the Vidarbha Lady Lawyers Association and the Nagpur City Police Commissionerate on 5th December at Nagpur.
