GORING GAP LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY

TRANSPORT HISTORY GROUP to the National Army Museum and Royal Chelsea Hospital Museum Chelsea, on Wednesday 21 March 2018

The new National Army Museum is a joy - they have got the balance of display and written information just right. Use of excellent interactives enables in depth examination of some subjects without being overwhelming. In addition to the obvious military campaigns the Museum covers the social history of all military personnel not just the combatants including women. It also deals with impact of the army on the arts and children’s play.

As an extra to finish or begin your visit not far away is the charming little Chelsea Hospital Museum which tells the history of this stunning hospital - the home for retired military personnel since 1692. I have never seen so many medals! The Wren designed chapel is superb but must be viewed from outside. The shop is manned by cheerful Pensioners of both sexes who are happy to chat.
