WISDOM FROM THOSE WHO HAVE SAT WHERE YOU SIT

  • Read and take notes on each chapter. Not even kidding, you will be so happy in the end.
  • Make flashcards.
  • Highlight. Be careful highlighting your first read through. Use different colors.
  • Be organized!
  • Don’t even look at your cell phone.
  • Participate in class discussions.
  • Understand the KNETs. (Ace the KNETs tests to help your grade.)
  • Look over past D.B.Q.s to draw connections.
  • There will be time to relax.
  • Teamwork is the dream work. Use study groups.
  • Bring food to class. Bribing Anderson with food does work.
  • Read/do the handouts he gives you.
  • Check the website. Often.
  • Anderson in a good mood = more m.o.m.’s.Yay!
  • Test corrections help a lot!
  • Keep at it. Despite heavy workload, multiple breakdowns and late night studying…it is worth it! You learn SO much.
  • Put your all into your work…half-assing it will hurt you later on.
  • Bring cookies and other goodies on block days.
  • Bring your book to class.
  • Don’t ditch. You can’t afford to; too much information is covered.
  • Have an open mind to history.
  • Don’t procrastinate. Procrastination hurts your life.
  • Don’t bring food unless you plan on sharing with Anderson.
  • Don’t lie to Anderson…he knows.
  • Be motivated. You have to motivate/inspire yourself.
  • Smile, it will make the class so much better.
  • You will do twice the work than other classes…it will pay off.
  • Know the different time periods and topics…use P.E.R.S.I.A.
  • Actually try to learn the story…don’t just memorize.
  • The 16-page review is helpful and yes, he will grade it.
  • I know you read…go back and read again!
  • UseQuizlet. Most helpful website ever (for every class.)
  • Take R.R.E.s seriously.
  • Get into a studying rhythm or pattern and stick to it.
  • Don’t forget the big picture: Cause and effect, change over time, connections with people, events and issues across time periods.
  • Don’t slack off second semester.
  • Don’t try and cram the night before, review consistently.
  • When it comes to exams or the AP test: You know more than you think you do!
  • Remember, it’s important to be informed about the country you live in!
  • Learn the vocab you don’t understand.
  • Glue your butt to a chair and read the whole book front to cover the first couple weeks of school.
  • Don’t believe the book tells you all you should know about history.
  • Don’t just read chapters…RETAIN them!
  • Don’t cheat. It’s not worth it. He’s always watching.
  • Do the extra work you are given – it is helpful for learning the ‘story’ and remembering.
  • Do your work on time! I procrastinated and it killed me.
  • Find something in each chapter you enjoy – it makes it more fun.
  • Relax and have fun! Don’t take this class too seriously

(This last one is important. Personal development, finding inspiration, life lessons, relevance and exploring stuff you’re interested in are the real goals of this class. If you want to pass the test, cool, then I want to help you do that. But don’t forget the big picture.)
