Finals 2016

Thanks to the efforts of all our Indoor Leagues this year the finals teams were Chippenham CC (representing the Chippenham League), South Wilts CC (representing SADICA), Burbage & Easton Royal CC (representing the Savernake Forest Indoor League) and Coastal Cobras CC (representing the Swindon League).

The games were played at the Croft Sports Centre, Marlborough Road, Old Town, Swindon on Sunday, 7th February, 2016. This venue is now the ideal for this stage of the competition with the complete floor covering.

The draw had Burbage & Easton Royal CC playing Coastal Cobras CC and Chippenham CC playing South Wilts CC.

1st Semi Final.

Coastal Cobras won the toss and elected to bowl first. Burbage & Easton Royal with the exception of Dan Wootton 74 not out found it very tough going particularly against Sanjay Chowan. The final score of 99 for 5 ensured there was a good game. However, thanks to some tight bowling the Coastal Cobras were only able to score 86 for 4 from their 12 overs. .

2nd Semi Final.

The second semi final was always going to be a tough ask for Chippenham who were playing the defending champions. Chippenham were only able to make 65 for 4 from their 12 overs and South Wilts made short work of making the total for the loss of one wicket.

Thanks were made to the Swindon Indoor League and in particular Shaz Khan and The Croft for providing a wonderful facility for the County finals. The matting is a feature to be proud of. Thanks were made to the organisers of the various Indoor Leagues who provide the finalists on the day.

Thanks to the scorers and the umpires for the competition Kris Boulton and stand in Peter Mathias. The presentations were made by Peter Mathias who congratulated South Wilts on their previous successes in this competition and thanked them for some wonderful highlights. He looked forward to seeing them attempt to regain the trophy in 2017. Burbage & Easton Royal CC were congratulated on winning the event and they now represent Wiltshire in the 1st round of the ECB National Indoor Competition when they play the Gloucestershire champions on Sunday, 14th February, 2016 at the Marlborough Leisure Centre, Marlborough.

ECB Indoor National Club Championship

1st round – Sunday, 14th February, 2016

The Marlborough Leisure Centre, Barton Dene, Marlborough was the venue for the 1st round proper of the ECB Indoor National Club Championship on Sunday, 14th February, 2016. The game saw Wiltshire champions Burbage & Easton Royal CC take on Gloucestershire champions Cheltenham Civil Service CC.

Cheltenham Civil Service CC won the toss and elected to bowl first – probably to gain an idea of how the sports hall performed and it is smaller than a number of the venues used for indoor cricket.

Burbage & Easton Royal CC immediately took up the challenge and posted a very respectable 150 for the loss of 1 wicket from their 12 overs. Skipper Dan Wootton made 27 and retired, Tom Wallbridge 28 and retired, David Cope 27 and retired. The unfortunate Daniel Swatton was run out on 24 and Adam Lavis was 22 not out. With 20 extras the score looked a good one.

Cheltenham Civil Service CC made slow progress early on and lost their first wicket with the score at 47 off 5 overs. Opener C. Baker retired on 26 but returned later to complete his innings of 51 not out. He received good support from Williams who made 35 before he was bowled. With 22 extras the final score was 118 for 5 from 12 overs giving Wiltshire the victory by 32 runs.

This was a very mature performance from Burbage & Easton Royal CC who will now represent Wiltshire in the Regional finals at the Somerset School of Excellence, Taunton on Sunday, 28th February, 2016. They will play at 1630 hours against St. Austell CC. We wish them the very best of luck.

Umpires for the game were Jason Flannery (Gloucestershire) and Peter Mathias (Wiltshire). Scorers were Steve Wootton for Burbage & Easton Royal and Martin Smithers of Marlborough CC who scored for Cheltenham Civil Service. The large crowd of supporters who were much appreciated were treated to some fine cricket.
