Week 3 Comments

The scores are tightening as several matches went down to the last hole in Week #3, with points and half points decided on the final shots of the night.

Brady(Hackers) had the shot of the night with a 2” birdie putt on #8. The group on the tee-box kept waiting for it to fall in the cup for an ace. Nice birdie!

Offtogether rolled to another victory and now is the clubhouse leader with a 3-0 record and is 3-1/2 points clear of second-place Pinseekers. The points totals come into play in settling ties at the end of the year, so this bunch is in good position already early in the season. Team X and Bad Boys suffered their first losses of the season and dropped to 2-1 along with Pinseekers and Willow Creek Sharks. Purple Cobras and System 3 picked up their first wins this week and there are now 4 teams tied at 1-2. The Dawg Pound keeps hanging in their matches and barely lost to the Cobras(anyone notice their matching shirts) on the team net total after splitting their matches at 2 apiece.

Three of the nights matches were won or lost on the team net total, so everyone should play hard to the very end even if they are out of their individual match.

Everyone’s handicap is settling into a good, solid number and the matches will likely be close from now to the end. Some are moving one or two strokes up or down, but looking over the scores for the night, most golfers are now shooting near their handicap number. The result of this—every match from now on should go to the golfer playing the best on that night.

There are substitutes now playing a factor on some of the teams, and each sub must have some rounds on the course or else they will be penalized with less strokes on their handicap than they might deserve. If you know your team will have a sub in the coming weeks, they need to get out here and play 2 or 3 rounds. It matters! Ask Team X or Purple Cobras.

For those that don’t know, Jason Lerma has been a roving substitute for the last 3 weeks and has filled in for 3 different teams. He’s ready to become a permanent team member if anyone thinks they will have one of their top 4 drop out in the coming weeks. He’s got an established handicap and would make a good edition to the team. He plays a mean guitar, as well.

Every week has been fun, and it may be time for a midseason tournament scramble for some money. Any thoughts on this would be welcome. E-mail me from this website if you want to comment.

One this is for certain. Somebody better slow down the Offs—they’re acting like the Peyton Manning Colts and making an early season push to separate themselves from the pack. Jack King
