Willmar JO Volleyball

The Willmar JO Volleyball program was started to provide athletes the opportunity to improvetheir volleyball skills in the off season.WillmarVolleyball seeks to provide a community and volunteer-driven program to promote the growth and skill development of our players. In addition, we hope to promote a fun, fair and safe environment that maximizes participation and improves players’ skills while developing sportsmanship, teamwork and self-confidence.We also seek to support our Willmar High School volleyball program.

This is a local club administered through the North Country Region Volleyball [ ], which is affiliated with USA Volleyball.

Who Can Play?

The Willmar JO Volleyball program is open to girls currently in 5th grade through 11th grade. If numbers allow, there may be a limited number of spots for 4th graders.

Team Placement

Teams will be formed based on number of girls in each age group and skill levels, with a goal to have approximately 8-10 girls on each team. Teams are usually formed in an “A” and “B” team format according to age group and/or skill level. The number of girls trying out determines the number of teams we will have and the age level at which they will play (16u, 15u, 14u, 13u, etc.).All girls must try out with their own age group.

Commitment

It is extremely important that each player on a Willmar J.O. Volleyball team be committed to attending all practices and tournaments as much as possible. While we realize, conflicts do arise and that schoolwork and school activities need to come first. Habitual and repeated absences by a player affect the progress and morale of the entire team – especially in tournament situations. If your schedule will not allow you to participate in at least 75% of the practices and tournaments, then perhaps J.O. volleyball is not for you. Any absences from practice and tournaments must be approved by your coach ahead of time.

Communications

Communication to team members and parents regarding J.O. volleyball will be via email and/or text message from the Director and/or your team’s coach. Each coach is responsible for communications to his/her team but we will use the web site as much as possible to facilitate communications for the club.We may also ask for parent volunteers to serve asa team'sCommunications person to assist the coach. It is essential that your coachhave a working email address for your family so that you will receive all team updates. Please direct your questions to your coach or the club Director.

An evening practice of 60-90 minutes during the week will be added the first week of March. Locations and times for practices will be announced to each team and posted on the web site.

Tournaments

The 11s and 12s teams will participate in at least four tournaments between March and May. The 13U – 17U teams will play at least 5 tourneys starting in mid-March through early to mid-May. Each team will have its own tournament schedule and travel to area tournaments, usually within 30-60 miles away, but sometimes as far as 90 miles away.Your team’s coach will be responsible to communicate your team’s tournament and practice schedule to you, usually by email. The purchase of spandex shorts, knee pads, shoes, socks, etc. is up to each individual player. Balls are provided at practice and tournaments.

Officiating Clinic

Each player is required to attend an officiating clinic to learn the rules and how to keep score and officiate a volleyball game. There are no paid officials at J.O. tourneys – the girls’ officiate the games themselves, which is why attending the officiating clinic and learning how to officiate and keep the score sheet is so important.
