Award Purpose
The Assembly of Sea Grant Extension Program Leaders awards the William Q. Wick Visionary Career Leadership Award at its biennial meetings. The award recognizes outstanding career achievement, leadership, vision, and contributions to Sea Grant Extension throughprogramming or administrationby a retiredor soon to retire Sea Grant extension professional.
Wick Award History
The award was established in 1994 and first given at the Hawks Cay, Florida Assembly meeting to Sid Cleveland (New York Sea Grant). In 1998, the Assembly decided to recognize both administration and programming in separate awards, when warranted. The following individuals have been recognized by the Assembly

The award procedure is overseen by theAssembly of Sea Grant Extension Program Leaders and the final selectionwill be made by the Assembly's Executive Committee. All 2011 nominationsare due Monday, August 1, 2011. Nomination packages, submitted as one complete PDF, should include the information requested in the attached nomination form with a limit of three letters of support. Award categories areVisionary Leadership throughAdministration andVisionary Leadership through Programming. The number of awards in any given year is determined by the Executive Committee as warranted by the strength and number of the candidates.

Award Presentation
The 2011Wick Award(s) will be presented by the Assembly of Sea Grant Extension Program Leaders during the Put-in-Bay, OhioAssembly meeting September 19-22, 2011.
About William Q. Wick
Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1927, William Wick attended Oregon State College to study fish and game management and received both B.S. and M.S. degrees in 1950 and 1952, respectively. First employed by OSU in 1960 as an Extension Service Agent for Tillamook County, Wick left seven years later to work at the OSU Marine Science Center in Newport. In 1968, Wick assumed the post of Program Leader of the Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program and a year later became coordinator of the regional Pacific Sea Grant Advisory Program. For his efforts in the Marine Advisory Programs, Wick received the U.S. Department of Agriculture Superior Award in 1971. In 1973, Wick became Director of the OSU Sea Grant Program.
