Widener University is currently seeking a Director, Small Business Development Center. The Widener University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) supports economic development in southeastPennsylvania through the provision of information resources, educational programs and consulting services primarily in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

The Director of the SBDC is responsible for planning, developing andimplementing all programs and services provided across the service region. The Director provides leadership to the Widener SBDC in working collaboratively and with full accountability, with university, community, regional and state and federal programs, personnel and resources. The director reports to the Dean of the Widener University School of Business Administration and to the State Director of the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers (PASBDC).

Specific areas of responsibility are program development and strategic planning, operations, financial oversight and management, contributions to the university community, external relations, program evaluation and reporting, training programs and special-project management.

Day-to-day areas of responsibilities include (but are not limited to) manage and operate the SBDC in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and other governing documents; Manage the delivery of services to meet performance expectations; prepare and monitor budgets and financial management of the SBDC ; Prepare proposals for funding; manage human resources and supervise staff ; attend all meetings of the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers ; attend meetings of the faculty of the Widener School of Business Administration; outreach to educate clients, partners and stakeholders on SBDC services and impact ; contribute to knowledge creation and dissemination through communicating with peers and participating in network activities ; provide for making educational experiences available to Widener students to work with SBDC consultants and clients; and supervise and evaluate Graduate Assistants provided to the SBDC through the School of Business Administration

Qualified candidates must possess a Master’s degree or higher in business related field with five to seven (5-7+) years of management experience within institutions of higher education; demonstrated ability and experience in building relationships with partners and stakeholders (community, legislators, university, EDCs); experience managing government grant funded projects and working with small business ownership/business development desired. Experience writing and securing grants; managing grants, contracts and budgets with significant knowledge of and high degree of personal commitment to, entrepreneurship, small business development and education. Candidates must have the ability to work within, and across complex organizations and manage multiple relationships; be completely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Public Speaking and business consulting experience are key.

Small Business ownership/experience preferred, but not required.
