Renfrewshire Council, Reaching Older Adults in Renfrewshire (ROAR) and Renfrewshire Council for Voluntary Services (RCVS) present:

A Seminar Exploring Public Social Partnership (PSP)

Thursday 2nd September 2010

1400-1700

Venue: Abercorn Conference Centre (see map)

A second round of “Public-social partnership” pilots has been funded by the Scottish Government. Renfrewshire is leading the way having previous experience from the first round.

This seminar is aimed at the Public and Third Sectors: senior managers, commissioners, procurement officers and anyone involved in service design activities.

It will:

  1. explore PSP as an exciting, effective and efficient model of service planning,
  2. Consider ROAR as a model of delivery and consider the role of PSP to support and achieve local and national outcome targets through service re-design.
  3. Flag up possibilities beyond the current older adult focus

Current services are not sustainable and often not desirable. Our policies are to promote independence but many of our services promote dependence!

We need a philosophy of care that builds community capacity that fosters co-production and a mutual care approach - in short that enables individuals and communities to take greater responsibility for their own health and well being.

There are great examples of these approaches being developed in Renfrewshire, across Scotland and beyond, butas projects and pilots, not in a whole system way. Renfrewshire is a national pilot for a whole system approach to community capacity building – this is our opportunity to Reshape Care in Renfrewshireto deliver better outcomes – it can only be achieved by a strong partnership across Health, Council and Community sectors.

This workshop will explore the scope for developing community capacity locally, and will hear about initiatives and ideas from Scotland, Europe and beyond that might be relevant to our challenges.

Harry Burns – the Chief Medical Officer spoke quite passionately about this “direction of travel” at the recent NHS annual conference

Mike Martin from the Improvement service will lead to discussion.
