AOTI are pleased to announce athree day HSE funded Lifestyle Design Workshop. This workshop is for O.Ts working in mental health settings.

When:Theworkshop will take place over three days on the 9thJan, Feb 13th& May 8th, 2015.Attendance at all three days is essential.

Where:St. Marys, Phoenix Park, Dublin

Who can apply:Occupational therapists working in mental health teams

Criteria:

•Occupational therapists attending must have access to a client population that is ready for change, cognitively able to participate in group discussion and activities, not actively using illicit substances or experiencing psychosis, and are medically stable. The client population may or may not be a current client group, but can be a potential client group who is in need of preventative/ wellness programming.

•Occupational therapists attending must have commitment from their agency to run such a group.

Course Aims:

  1. be able to assess the needs of a population they work with to determine if Lifestyle Redesign principles are a suitable intervention
  2. be able to facilitate Lifestyle Design groups in an appropriate manner with people with mental health difficulties.
  3. formally evaluate the effectiveness of a Lifestyle Design group by using appropriate outcome measures.

Overall Learning: Once participants complete this training they will have the skills to assess the need for and run future Lifestyle Design groups – these principles can also be applied to their practice with individual clients or to other settings as well.

Course Content

Day 1: Will focus on the theory and principles of Lifestyle Design and implications for Occupational Therapy mental health practice. The Well Elderly Research Programme and its findings will be highlighted. Participants will learn how to carry out a needs assessment within their community mental health service – determine who will you offer the group to and what are the perceived needs of the service users, service providers, and community.

*Between Day 1 and 2 participants will conduct their own needs assessment utilising literature and interviews with relevant partners.

Day 2: Will use the results from their needs assessment, and meet in pairs/ groups to create a lifestyle design group – module development; practical considerations; outcome measurement.

*Between Day 2 and 3 of the training, participants will go away put into place Lifestyle Design intervention.

Day 3:This follow up session will concentrate on therapists’ experience of implementing Lifestyle Design including challenges encountered, future ideas and outcomes.

2) Send your non refundable booking fee of €20 to the AOTI office. Payment must be received before 16th December, 2014 by 5pm. Please make this payment out to AOTI and attach a note with your name and course name. If the course does not go ahead or if you do not secure a place at the workshop, you will be provided with a full refund.
