JOB GOALS:

Manages school library containing general, audio-visual, and specialized materials for use by students, faculty, and administrative staff. Provides each student with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual probing, growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources.

PART A: JOB DESCRIPTION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Operates and supervises the libraries and computer labs to which assigned.

  • Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.

  • Assists teachers in the selection of books, computer software, computer hardware, instructional equipment, and other instructional materials and informs the teachers and other staff members concerning new materials and equipment the library acquires.

  • Assists faculty by making library materials, computer software, computer hardware, and equipment available to supplement the instructional program.

  • Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities. Oversees the keying of information into computer to store or search for selected material.

  • Assists students and staff in computer use and implementation of the one to one computer initiative.

  • Serves as a communicator for the school to stakeholders. Manages the webpage, announcements, and other communication endeavors that benefit the school.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students or faculty. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to principal and assistant principal, faculty, students, public groups, and/or members of the school board.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to type and word process accurately at 40 words per minute and operate available library computer software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Driver=s license.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

182 days. Salary to be determined by Board. Includes Class G benefits.
